Throwback 10/28 - Witch of the Abyss

Happy (early) Halloween! Figured for this weeks throwback its only natural I do something on theme. On twitter awhile back there was a trend among some artists to draw thicc boys dressed as magical boys. For those unfamiliar, there's a genre of fantasy known as magical girls that was popularized by the Sailor Moon franchise. The essential component of a magical girl is that in their normal lives they're unassuming normal people but through a magical item they're capable of transforming in a sequence of lots of glitter, lights and sparkles into a scantily-clad magic empowered version of themselves. I've always been a fan of this trope. It's basically power rangers but 100% gayer. While the trope is almost exclusively dominated by female-aligned characters because of the large fanbase of gay men there has been copious amounts of fan art that centers men in the frilly and skimpy outfits. Myself included.

This specific challenge was centered more around witchy themes. With each witch having special earrings that gave them the power to transform into a witch with an elemental power and corresponding crystal ball (Example from the original creators of this trend). As a big lover of anime and fantasy broadly it was lots of fun to draw Bubba in a context that wasn't specifically fat fetishism. I draw things outside my fat art and often wish I could dedicate more time to that but lack the time bandwidth to do so. But a challenge like this lets me do both because I get to shove Bubba in such a revealing outfit that shows off all the good parts(belly in suspenders + crop top hooo boy).

For Bubba I decided to go with a dark elemental theme. You all know Bubba as a loveable and sweet fat man who loves to glut himself constantly. He absolutely is all of those things but for those reasons in situations where I give Bubba fantastical powers of some kind I enjoy giving him dark powers that run contrast to his nature. It's just a fun take on a character that is usually so embroiled in pure distilled fat goodness. More specifically, Bubba is the Witch of the Abyss and his powers draw from the furthest reaches of the beyond. I'm sure you're familiar with the quote "gaze into the abyss"  think of that. Conflating the abyss(or darkness) to mesmerizing and alluring. It was additionally enjoyable for the joke of gazing at bubba's prominent belly but that's besides the point. But to Bubba's power's basically just think of dark energy in contrast with brightly colored fluorescent energy that catches the eye that is mainly used for illusory purposes. 

On another related note Bubba has a few different iterations out there of him outside the fat fetishism context. Just about any piece of popular media I actively enjoy I have created an iteration of Bubba (and other characters for that matter) for it. I'm built to always be creating OCs and stuff for media I enjoy. To name a few big ones I've drawn Bubba as a Pokemon trainer, I've drawn him if he were a Mutant in the X-men franchise, you've met 70's Bubba already, I also have Bubba as a hero if he were from the series My Hero Acadamia and Steven Universe as a Gemsona just to name a few. I really ought to do a drawing where I put them all together. Would that be of interest to people?
