A special Throwback Thursday for SFgutmuscle who's birthday is today. Be sure to wish him a Happy Birthday. This drawing is a true throw back as this was a drawing done way back in 2019. So that's why it looks so... rough when compared to my more contemporary works. In fact, back at this time I was still learning how to use a drawing program and didn't even understand how to use layers. You can see a lot of the amateurish work with the shaky, thick lines and incoherent shading. But not going to harp too much on the artistic quality of this drawing. Part of art is improving over time and it was a necessary step in improving what I could do.
This piece has a short and simple but really fun backstory. Back around this time Sfgutmuscle started to host instagram lives where he'd be eating a meal and just chatting with folks. It was always a fun time because for those who don't know Sfgutmuscle is fucking hilarious and just a very all around lovely individual with a whole lot to say on any number of subjects. His livestreams were also very nice background noise for when I was drawing. I suppose Sfgut's heavy breathing is good creativity stimulant. The impetus for this drawing was whilst I was listening to one of his live videos. As is typical of Sfgut he was making many quips. One such quip stuck with me where he joked about how he finds himself sometimes sitting on his couch eating food or having just eaten looking at his phone on a delivery app for what to eat and he just gets a chuckle about his sheer food consumption and how comedic it would look for anyone on the outside looking in. I most certainly agreed and it sparked this drawing.
One thing you all know very well is that as hot as all this gainery/ fat fetishism is for me, I also love some of the more humorous and lighthearted aspects. I think having a good mix of the two is the spice of life. Because often times some of the hottest gainery moments have some element of comedy or sweet genuineness to them. In the case of this idea I truly just fell in love with how funny it'd be to show Sfgutmuscle significantly fatter and bloated after a large meal having the gumption to whip out his phone and start looking for something to order on Uber Eats. His iconic NYPD shirt straining and barely holding on but he doesn't care dammit its time to eat some more food. There's a fun mix that occurs when a fat man simultaneously recognizes that he's a huge fat glutton but also acts oblivious to some of the effects it has on them, their actions, appearance etc. Another of one of my fave phenomena's with fat men perhaps among my favorite. A common example is the fat man who forgets how wide they are sometimes and finds themselves impeded in their ability to navigate some spaces due to how fat they've become. In this case the application was Sfgutmuscle recognizing he's a huge guy and has a huge appetite so he's gotta keep that gut stuffed but being oblivious to the comedy of this absurdly rotund man who's belly dwarfs the couch casually ordering even more food. Societal normie standards would tell you that's the exact opposite of what he should be doing in that moment but does he care? NOPE. A man's gotta keep that belly fed after all.
The pose in this drawing was specifically meant to capture just how absolutely nonchalant Sfgut is about this act he's taking. Lazing about the couch in one of the most stereotypically lazy poses. This pose working both in contrast and in tandem with how fat he is. He dominates the couch in size to be practically the same size yet he's so casual about all this. Does he not care? is he oblivious to just how profoundly fat he's gotten? Who knows either way he is going to eat. That is the ultimate message of this piece. A playful and fun exploration of a gainer phenomena sparked by Sfgut's dad jokes he's always telling. The semi-aware fat glutton who's too engrossed in keep his appetite satiated to notice the gravity of his growth. Naturally he made a great subject for the piece itself and I most certainly enjoyed the opportunity to draw him much fatter in a "what could be" sort of way. Happy Birthday Sfgutmuscle!
