PSA..not everyone has the same veins! Even if you have good/protruding veins, they may not be so good in the event of an emergency, such as massive hemorrhaging, or if you are dehydrated/malnourished. If we can’t get an IV in the ambulance and absolutely need access, we do an IO (basically a drill into your bone). If they cant get one in the ER, they typically will do ultrasound guided IV access. I’ve seen people get stuck over 20 times with attempts by multiple people.
