i really think it depends on the person. like some people have a good amount of money to not have to work all the time but they still do to have something to do or maybe to make even more money. just because you a multimillionaire or billionaire doesn’t mean you have to sit home and do nothing. you can still work.

2025-02-19 02:36:15 +0000 UTCthey’re getting dangerously close to the debate of “if it wasn’t a highly paid profession, we wouldn’t have doctors”. even if I had $20 billion dollars, I’d still do what I LOVE to do for my job, and I’d be able to do it without financial concern. but would also help out family and start a foundation, etc. my brother is a community social worker and I know he would continue to do that job, but be able to help his clients BETTER, without financial barriers. my sister would still be a doctor and do clinical research but she could afford her apartment. I think if the average person was given money, they would still have a life with hobbies and jobs/volunteering.

2025-02-16 06:41:47 +0000 UTCi agree with joe on the lotto convo. here’s the thing, there is a reason people that win the lotto lose all the money. and there is a reason wealthy people remain wealthy. the economy is such a fragile concept that altering it in a sense where even a close circle of people didn’t have to work, would disrupt it. i would quietly/anonymously pay off the debt of the people i care about. i wouldn’t flash vacations or dinner to a concerning amount. and i would do as much good in the world as i can. people that have pick-up trucks will tell you, “don’t get a pick-up because suddenly then everyone wants to be your friend when they are moving.” i feel like the same thing would go for the money. you might not even end up disrupting others lives, but you definitely would your own.

I know one person in particular that is already extremely financially irresponsible, so I couldn’t just give them a huge lump sum. Everyone would have their needs met, and have a little cash to spend however they want.

The whole family was torn apart, he got hooked on drugs, took out second mortgages on the multiple properties he purchased and defaulted on all of them. Put my step mom like 150k into debt. Divorce, the whole shebang. He now lives in a 2 bed apartment with 4 other people and sleeps on a couch in the living room. He doesn’t know where he went wrong. Money can be a blessing and an absolute curse. The word “burden” that joey uses multiple times is so accurate.

Just because I’m set for life doesn’t mean I wouldn’t get up and do something with my life. Like Frankie said, that doesn’t take away a person’s purpose if they’re genuinely passionate about stuff. They both have a good point, Joe is just looking at it as if everyone’s passion and drive is directly connected to money.

Other than giving straight up money I feel there may be more value in treating everyone in different ways, gifts, acts of service, help someone out when something goes wrong, if you observe someone working hard towards something you give them a leg up etc. I for sure would not be parading it around even to my family just exactly how much I’d have because I know people would treat me differently lol but would love to make everyone feel comfortable while of course making sure myself and my immediate family (hubby kids etc) has as much reduced stress as possible. Would love to be able to just work part time vs full time and of course continue to work a job I don’t mind. So to Frankie’s point I agree that just because someone has the money doesn’t mean they lose the purpose but do agree with Joes point that giving a lot of money at once is scary and also leaves you open to people asking for more.

School, house, car, loan, credit, you know... all the things.. then I would make sure everyone has their "dream home" within a realistic range, and a well functioning, reasonable car.... Then I would put a bunch into savings for myself throughout the years and my family and friends.... But I would take a big bunch and donate to homeless shelters, animal shelters, adoption centers, fertility clinics, people who cant afford necessities, small brands, mom and pop shops, you know all that stuff. I would also wanna start a non-profit that can help the unhomed people and animals throughout the US.... I would DEF overthrow the government and get orange peel out. (they're gonna come get me now).... but ultimately I want to help the greater good in some way shape or form. Yes, I want my family and friends to all live comfortably, but I also want people who dont have a roof, dont have food, dont have fresh and clean water, who dont have a change of clothes, to have those things. I take them for granted and I try to remind myself frequently that I am so incredibly lucky. Damn, didnt plan on writing a novel. But I pulled an all nighter last night, so brain no work now... I also havent taken my adderall
