2025-03-12 14:42:48 +0000 UTCone thing about tipping — most servers that you tip will have to tip out based on sales, so no matter how much you tip, they will still have to tip out based on the bill. This can range from 3 to 5 to even 7 percent. Still a big tip. This is good to keep in mind for people that don’t tip though, that server could be paying to serve you if you dont tip at all on a bill.

If you had great service or can tip more, tipping 25-30% will make someone’s day. And most people aren’t spending over a grand on a bill, and if you can afford $1000 dinner, you can afford a $200 tip.

I vehemently disagree with Frank & Joe on this one (and am starkly reminded when they have convos like these that they’re in the 1% now for NY & NJ) because while $10k is objectively a lot of money, the inherent fact that it’s a drop in the bucket for Jay-Z— like Frank said— is the issue. Not tipping 20% OR MORE when his net worth couldn’t even be fully redistributed in his lifetime is disgusting. I don’t care how much or how little “work” the server did. This is not about the server. This is about the fact that Jay-Z stiffed the waiter proportionally to a) what the bill was and b) what he could have given without breaking a sweat. Hard stop.
