[MHCISQD] Chapter 408: Concluded
Added 2023-10-04 19:37:07 +0000 UTCLooking at the machine that had been pierced and the wall that had been demolished behind her, Mikoto tossed her hair, a flash of electricity sparking from her forehead.
"Not bad..." She remarked.
The power of her Railgun had already been tested by Yuriko. Though it couldn't break through Vector Manipulation's defense, there were hardly any machines or equipment that could withstand it.
In the distance, All Might, who hadn't brought any examinees with him, immediately walked over to her.
After a close observation, All Might grasped the essence of Mikoto's move.
"It's quite a unique technique. But, it relies on coins or something similar as ammunition, right? And the attack range is limited, too?"
Facing All Might's question, Mikoto didn't hide anything. She replied straightforwardly, "That's right. Just electrical current alone won't have this kind of effect, and the coins get worn down as the attack range extends. I've only recently mastered this move, and its maximum effective range is about forty meters."
All Might nodded in approval. "Forty meters. With your Quirk getting stronger, you might be able to extend the attack range further. The only weakness seems to be that it's a straight-line attack."
"Exactly. But that's not a problem. I have other tricks up my sleeve. It's just that today's test location is indoors, so I can't use them."
Mikoto didn't reveal her other techniques, wearing a smile that made people wonder if she was hiding even more.
As for Mikoto's other moves, others might not be aware, but Renault, Yaoyorozu, Yuriko, and Mikumo who hadn't come to the test site, knew.
The Iron Sand Sword was a move she had mastered long ago. Although it was usable, its power couldn't compare to the Railgun.
What remained was Falling Thunder, a move that required immense energy. However, the wind-up time was still too long for the current Mikoto to handle.
Of course, if someone were to cover her and withstand the attack, she could safely charge it up.
While Falling Thunder might not be invincible, it was certainly a top-tier move in terms of natural power.
Mikoto planned to wait until she fully mastered it in the future before unveiling it.
The testing device had been destroyed, and Mikoto didn't have to pay for it. A new machine was promptly brought in.
Midnight, who was responsible for recording the scores, silently marked down an SSS grade on the score sheet, an exceptional result.
The durability of this testing device had been tested by many Pro Heroes. Only those like the former All Might, with extremely pronounced Quirks, could destroy it.
Mikoto naturally fell into this category. The electromagnetic cannon formed by her massive electric current was a formidable force in both thermal energy and penetration, making it a predictable outcome.
Next up after Mikoto was Mei.
Since weapons were allowed in the exam, Mei took a standard katana from a carrying case she had with her.
It had no special design or ornamentation, just a silver-gray katana, clearly a standard weapon.
Of course, if anyone saw Mei's weapon case, they'd notice a different katana inside, but she didn't use it.
"If I use that one, it might be overkill. I'll go with this."
Holding the katana, Mei stood in front of the testing device.
She took a deep breath, slowly closed her eyes, and, to the amazement of everyone watching, began to emanate an energy fluctuation.
Mei's power also belonged to the thunder and lightning category, but in terms of energy manifestation, it was different from Mikoto's blue and white; instead, it was a deep purple.
Compared to Mikoto's lightning, Mei's power gave off a more oppressive and chaotic vibe.
In an instant, Mei opened her eyes, and a hint of purple flashed in her gaze.
Then, she moved.
As Mei took a step forward, silhouettes formed of purple lightning split from her body, wielding blades of the same purple hue.
At the same moment the first strike was unleashed, a continuous barrage of attacks followed.
This sequence lasted only two seconds, but the testing equipment did indeed endure a violent onslaught, emitting a continuous and intense clamor.
Once she stood still and sheathed her blades, Mei's actions, as well as her ferocious assault, seemed as if they had never occurred.
Midnight, who stood to the side, watched Mei retract her stance and quietly glanced at the test results on the equipment. She then recorded an 'SS' on the form.
Although there were still others left to be tested, and some items yet to be examined, Midnight was certain that the top two spots in this exam belonged to these two girls.
Seeing Mei return, the three boys in her group already felt a sense of despair.
One could be forgiven, but the second one as well? The disparity in their Quirks was simply too vast.
Mikoto looked at Mei, who had just returned to her side, and asked in amazement, "What was that move just now? It was so cool!"
Mei blushed slightly and replied, "It's a family technique. It can only unleash its full power when combined with our family's Quirk. I haven't fully developed it yet."
Meanwhile, Renault, who was on the sidelines, had carefully analyzed and recalled Mei's technique but had not fully deciphered it.
"It seems that it's related to her Quirk, tailored to suit her abilities. It's only when everything comes together that such power can be unleashed."
As he spoke, he glanced at Kaminari.
"Kaminari, you both have electric-based abilities, but when will you be able to compensate for your shortcomings?"
At this point, Kaminari was also feeling demoralized by the strength displayed by the two freshmen. He had thought that after all his training, he had made significant progress, but it seemed that there was always someone better.
Helplessly covering his face, Kaminari said, "Life is already so difficult, can't you cut me some slack? I want to improve, but I just can't..."
Kaminari's reaction elicited laughter from everyone. Indeed, the shortcomings of his Quirk weren't something that could be easily overcome. Perhaps it would take the next generation to have a chance at it.
In the exam room, although Mikoto and Mei's actions had drawn the attention of many, the progress of the exam was not delayed.
After more than an hour, the exam concluded.
The results of the exam would be announced within three days and delivered to the student's homes. However, the departing students already knew that two spots had likely been secured.
Mikoto and Mei didn't leave the exam venue; instead, after completing the exam, they joined their Class A peers and returned to the dormitory.
"It's practically in the bag!" Mikoto couldn't contain her excitement as she walked in and sat down.
