Chapter 40: Power Restored

The heat wave behind them gradually subsided, and Li Yexing pulled Lilith up and turned to look into the kitchen. At this point, a blazing fire was burning in the kitchen, and the fire suppression system on the Orianna had already been activated. Cold water was spraying down from the ceiling, suppressing the fire in the kitchen. Through the hazy room, Li Yexing saw the body of the mutated captain, who had been blown up to less than half of his body.

When the fire in the kitchen had mostly extinguished, Li Yexing walked in, braving the somewhat scorching steam, and went to the side of the captain's body. From the captain's ragged and burnt pocket, Li Yexing found what he was looking for - a blue magnetic card that was slightly deformed, and he didn't know if it could still be used normally.

He obtained the "Captain's Authorization Card." If it were a game, there would definitely be such a prompt accompanied by an eerie BGM.

Li Yexing casually put the card into his jacket pocket, turned around, and said to Lilith, "We got what we came for, let's go."

The two returned to the banquet hall, and Li Yexing was slightly shocked to see the corpses of infected individuals lying in all directions. The infected that they had encountered in the hall earlier had all been completely killed.

"How come it's you guys?" Li Yexing was surprised, but then he heard a voice from above, so he and Lilith immediately aimed their guns upstairs. Then they saw two familiar people.

"Don't...don't shoot! It's me, I'm the owner of this ship, Jason Parker!" The middle-aged little fat man who was being targeted said anxiously, while the maid next to him immediately aimed her silenced pistol at Li Yexing.

"How did you guys bring guns onto the ship?" The little fat man on the second floor suddenly asked.

"The pistol was taken from the body of a security guard, and the other weapons were taken from the captain's room," Li Yexing replied.

"I see..." Parker breathed a sigh of relief. He ordered his maid to put down her gun, so Li Yexing and Lilith also put down their guns.

Li Yexing had thought about just shooting him directly. After all, Parker definitely wouldn't have a position on the lifeboat, but to be honest, the black-silk maid with dark golden hair next to Parker gave Li Yexing a very bad feeling.

That woman was very dangerous.

"Listen to me, this ship is about to be done for. There are monsters everywhere, and we can't contact the outside world. I recommend you get on the lifeboat and leave as soon as possible," Parker said to Li Yexing as he put down his gun.

"What about you?" Li Yexing asked, frowning.

"This is my family's ship, and I will protect it until the last moment," Parker wiped the sweat from his forehead and said.

"Okay..." Li Yexing nodded and said, "I wish you all the best."

Li Yexing left the banquet hall with Lilith. As the door was about to open, Li Yexing glanced at Parker on the second floor of the hall from the corner of his eye and saw him staring at him with a sinister look.

Without a sound, they left the hall. Lilith, who had been silent the whole time, whispered, "He's lying."

"I can tell," Li Yexing said. "But I can't figure out why he's staying on this ship."

Lilith had no good answer to Li Yexing's question, so she remained silent.

"Next, we need to go to the power room and start the backup power. I hope Ada is still holding up. She still owes us a lot of commission," Li Yexing said, opening the communicator to contact Ada, but there was no response.

"I'll go check. Hopefully, she's okay," Li Yexing said with a frown.

"She's probably dead. Let's get on the lifeboat and leave," Lilith whispered.

"No, we're going to turn on the backup power," Li Yexing turned to Lilith and said, "That woman won't die easily in a place like this."

Lilith turned away, looking unhappy.

Next, the two of them hurried to the power room and encountered many infected along the way. Although Li Yexing tried to avoid unnecessary battles as much as possible, they still expended a lot of ammunition, and both of them were running low.

Finally, after a hard-fought battle, Li Yexing successfully arrived at the power room with Lilith. Upon entering the power room, Li Yexing quickly searched for the switch for the backup power supply. The switch was quite conspicuous and was encased in a glass cover that required a key to open. Li Yexing punched the glass cover, shattering it, and then attempted to open the valve inside. However, the valve was locked and Li Yexing couldn't budge it.

"What's the problem?" Li Yexing frowned.

Lilith tugged on his sleeve and pointed to a not-so-obvious card slot on the nearby console. Although he didn't know what kind of card should be inserted into the slot, Li Yexing still inserted the authorization magnetic card obtained from the mutated captain with a "might as well try" attitude.

With a beep, the console lit up with a faint green light, and the backup power control valve next to it emitted a "click" sound. Li Yexing returned to the valve and pulled it open. With a loud "thud", followed by the roar of the engine starting up, the lighting devices throughout the ship gradually began to recover.

Li Yexing noticed a row of small letters next to the valve, "Emergency backup power supply can only provide power for 12 hours. Please contact the relevant personnel to troubleshoot the main power failure during the supply period."

"Can only be opened for 12 hours?" Li Yexing thought for a moment and felt that the time should be sufficient.

"Now we go to unlock the gate to the lower deck and pick up our employer," Li Yexing turned to Lilith and said, "Once we finish this job, we can take a super long vacation."

------------------------

In the lower deck cabin, Clark finally arrived at sector A under the protection of the black ops. The journey was tumultuous as they were constantly besieged by monsters. Along the way, the group encountered a large number of monsters.

They were originally employees responsible for work related to the lower deck cabin on the ship, but they too were attacked by monsters that fell out of the ventilation ducts and turned into monsters themselves. However, these monsters were not a real threat. The real danger to the team came from the monsters that ran out of the lower deck cargo hold.

Clark didn't even know what those things were. In the dim light, he couldn't see them very clearly, but he knew they looked a bit like lizards and a bit like frogs. They were agile and extremely ferocious, with seemingly tough skin.

The whole team had to fight and retreat, and although they managed to kill one, there were at least two more of these monsters in the entire lower deck cabin. Moreover, they retreated too quickly at the time and had no idea if any other monsters had followed them out. After all, those strange cargo boxes were piled up throughout the entire lower deck cargo hold!

Now, the only survivors who have reached sector A are Clark and the black ops leader. Both of them were on high alert as they entered the emergency response center. Clark held a pistol and, after confirming that there was no one inside, he helped the injured black ops leader into the room and closed the door behind them.
