Chapter 51: Deep Sea Pineapple

After descending to the lower cargo hold, Li Yexing and Lilith opened the tactical flashlight attached to their HK-416 rifles. The space in the lower cargo hold was unexpectedly large, and the flashlight's beam was unable to fully penetrate the darkness. Following behind them, Helen supporting Rita couldn't help but shiver.

As they stepped onto the ground, the sound of water echoed through the space. Li Yexing lowered his head and saw that the entire bottom of the cargo hold was covered in standing water. The depth of the water only reached the soles of their shoes and wasn't deep enough to soak them.

"This place... is full of monsters brought on board by the Black Umbrella," Rita said softly. "If the thing you're looking for is hidden here, I advise you to give up and leave as soon as possible."

"It's okay, they've already left," Ada said with a smile. She turned on the small light attached to her ear and reached out to touch a nearby open cargo box. The boxes were almost entirely silver-white and each one was labeled with different lettered numbers.

Li Yexing looked around and saw many boxes like this scattered throughout the area, and most of them were already opened. Although the boxes looked large from the outside, the interior space was unexpectedly small and filled with various instruments. The standing water in the cargo hold seemed to have flowed out of these opened boxes.

"Where is the thing you're looking for?" Li Yexing turned to ask Ada.

"It's here, let's look inside."

And so, the group cautiously moved forward, stepping through the water in the darkness.

"I think I found it, it's this one!" Ada suddenly raised her hand to signal the others to stop. She looked at the picture on her phone and then at the cargo box in front of her. A smile appeared on her face as she said, "This is it."

Li Yexing followed Ada's gaze and saw an unopened cargo box in an inconspicuous corner of the wall. A red light was shining on the door of the box, and the words "Deep Sea Pineapple" were written on the box in bold, heavy English print.

'What is this thing?' Looking at the unopened deep-sea pineapple, Li Yexing frowned and said, "You're not going to ask us to help you move this thing out, are you?"

"Of course not, I just need to take what's inside," Ada smiled and took out a Swiss Army knife from her waist, unscrewing the screws on the cargo box door. With the sound of metal falling into the water, the small instrument on the door was exposed, and Ada immediately took out her phone and connected the data cable to the exposed instrument.

"Give me some time," Ada said.

While bored, Li Yexing casually asked Ada, "By the way, what's in this deep-sea pineapple?" Rita behind them lifted her head slightly, apparently also very interested in this matter.

"It doesn't matter if I tell you..." Ada smiled as she tried to crack the instrument with her phone to open the cargo box, "Actually, I don't know either."

"Forget it if you don't want to say," Li Yexing said with a sneer. "I really don't know. My boss just told me to retrieve the contents of the target cargo box, and I don't know exactly what's inside," Ada said.

"But my boss seems to have said that the stuff here was rescued from Raccoon City and is a valuable legacy from Umbrella."

"Umbrella's legacy..." Li Yexing muttered, "It doesn't sound like a good thing."

Suddenly, there was a loud noise from the bottom cargo hold, like the sound of some kind of machinery opening. Li Yexing and Lilith immediately raised their guns in alert, Rita took out her Uzi, and Helen supported Rita and leaned toward Li Yexing's surroundings.

"What's going on?" Ada stopped her work and turned around to ask.

"I don't know, it seems like a cargo container has been opened," Li Yexing answered with a furrowed brow. He held his gun and advanced with Lilith toward the direction of the sound.

There, Li Yexing saw that the red indicator light on a cargo container door had turned green at some point, and with the slow opening of the door, a pale green liquid gushed out from inside the container.

Immediately after, a kind of eerie sound emanated from the now-empty container.

The sound resembled the low roar of a wild beast.

Li Yexing gestured for Lilith to provide cover, then slowly approached the door of the container.

Just as Li Yexing was about to reach the door of the container, he heard a slight click, and then a figure that seemed small suddenly darted out from inside.

Gunfire rang out, and Lilith, who was standing guard behind Li Yexing, fired first. The bullets chased after the figure, creating water splashes on the ground until it ran into another container.

Li Yexing's face became a bit grim. Although it was only a moment, Li Yexing could basically confirm that the thing was a dog.

"What was that just now?" Maid Rita asked with a frown.

"It seemed like a zombie dog. Be careful," Li Yexing said, holding his gun and leading Lilith back quickly to where Rita and Helen were waiting. Since there was only one of them, Li Yexing believed that it would be difficult for the thing to attack if they stood together.

The sound of small animals running through the water echoed around them, and Li Yexing caught sight of a shadow flashing across his field of vision. Without hesitation, he fired his gun. Along with the gunshot, Li Yexing vaguely heard the howl of a canine animal. However, when he looked in the direction of the sound, he couldn't see the body.

"Help me get sixty seconds," Ada said behind him, her eyes fixed on the phone screen as she tapped her fingers non-stop.

"Really troublesome..." Li Yexing complained as he searched for the enemy's shadow with the tactical flashlight attached to his gun.

The basement warehouse was incredibly silent at this moment, and Li Yexing could vaguely hear Helen's heavy breathing. Although she looked strong now, the girl was clearly still frightened.

With no sound of water, it was safe to say that the guy hadn't moved, or at least not quickly. It was probably lying in a corner, watching them all closely.

Just then, a sound came from his ear, but it wasn't the sound of water, it was...

Without thinking, Li Yexing's body moved first. He raised his gun and looked in the direction of the sound, only to see the figure jumping from one cargo box to another at an incredible speed and rushing towards Helen and Rita. Its target was them.

"WATCH OUT!" Li Yexing shouted, firing at the figure, but it dodged his bullets with a zigzag motion, then leaped up and pounced on Helen and Rita.

In a critical moment, Rita pushed Helen away, gritting her teeth and using all her strength to kick the figure. Her straight black silk leg drew a beautiful arc in the air, then collided with the figure, which screamed and flew out, falling to the ground and splashing water everywhere. Li Yexing didn't miss the opportunity to beat a fallen dog while it was down. He raised his gun and pulled the trigger at the figure that hadn't yet stood up, and a series of bullets splattered blood everywhere. The figure tried to stand up but failed, falling to the ground and remaining motionless.

Li Yexing walked forward with a flashlight and saw that it was indeed a dog, but this dog was like it had been skinned, with all the muscles exposed. The dog wore a collar with several intravenous tubes and wires protruding from it, all of which were plugged into the back of the dog's head.

Rita, who had just kicked the dog, was now leaning against a cargo box, panting and looking as if she were about to collapse. Helen, who had been pushed aside, wanted to help her, but Rita refused.

"Thank you, Miss Lorena, I feel much better now," Rita said, smiling elegantly at the girl.

"It's done," Ada suddenly said.

As the indicator light on the cargo box door turned from red to green, the sound of machinery starting up rang out. The people around them all stepped back a few steps in unison to avoid being splashed by the water leaking from the cargo box. Everyone present raised their guns and aimed at the gradually opening cargo box door.

However, to everyone's surprise, as the cargo box door opened, what leaked out was not an unknown liquid, but a chilling air. The cargo box was flashing with white light, illuminating the faces of several people.

As the cold white mist dissipated, Ada, Li Yexing, and Lilith slowly approached with their guns raised. When they saw what was inside the cargo box, Li Yexing was slightly stunned.

"What is this thing?"
