[WDIDWAMGB] Chapter 78: Discovered

A black man with a fierce expression stood on the balcony of the second floor, listening to the shouts coming from behind the building across the dirt road.

He tapped his fingers on the glass bottle hanging from his waist, following the rhythm of the shouting. He also wanted to join in tonight's revelry, but unfortunately, his mission was to stand guard and eliminate any Government Forces stragglers that appeared in his field of view. This made him impatient.

In the past, he would have left his post without hesitation and joined his comrades, but tonight, for some reason, his subconscious told him that obeying orders from his superiors was the correct choice.

Just as he was feeling regretful for not being able to join the revelry, a loud noise suddenly came from above his head. He instinctively tensed up and looked around, but found nothing. His brain, already controlled by parasites, could not clearly understand what the noise from above meant. Soon, he gave up thinking and began absent-mindedly tapping the glass bottle along with the shouting.

Above the head of the black man, Leon stood up and waved his hand toward Li Yexing.

Li Yexing saw the black man on the balcony looking distracted, so he took a few steps back and then rushed towards the opposite roof. As he reached the edge with his footsteps, he made a leap and crossed over the dirt road and the black man below, landing on the roof across the street.

After a roll to dissipate the excess impact, he stood up and said to Leon, "Looks like we're good."

"Let's go," Leon whispered, and in the moonless night, the two of them lowered their bodies and tiptoed like assassins, jumping from one rooftop to another until the buildings ahead became more complex.

Tattered single-story houses were interspersed with a few haphazardly constructed two-story buildings, resembling the slums of the last century.

"It looks like we can't continue up there anymore..." Leon frowned.

"Then we'll go down. The terrain here is complex and the field of vision is narrow, so as long as we're careful, we can sneak out from here," Li Yexing said to Leon.

"It seems there's no other way..." After carefully confirming the surrounding terrain and making sure there were no patrols below, Leon patted Li Yexing on the shoulder and said, "Let's go, brother."

The two of them jumped down from upstairs carefully.

There didn't seem to be anyone around, but because of the complex terrain, it was impossible to confirm. Li Yexing had been here before, so he had to be a little familiar with it.

He led Leon into the pile of dilapidated single-story houses, moving slowly along the wall. Whenever there was a sound, they paused for a moment and continued forward after confirming it was safe.

The sound of rushing water could be heard in the front.

Li Yexing cautiously poked his head out and saw a member of the Rebel Forces with his back facing him, urinating. He signaled to Leon and quickly ran past the person before he finished, who turned around immediately after hearing the sound.

However, he saw nothing but an empty alley behind him and scratched his bald head in confusion.

Sneaking around in such densely built and narrow buildings was not a good choice as it made it difficult to accurately locate the enemy.

Fortunately, these Rebel Forces members were generally very noisy, either chatting loudly or singing strange songs, which could be heard from a distance. Thanks to this, Li Yexing and Leon were able to move around without being noticed, quickly passing through most of the town.

"You seem to be good at handling this kind of thing," Leon whispered to Li Yexing as they walked down the narrow alley.

"I suppose so. It's part of my job," Li Yexing replied to Leon.

"So, what do you do? A mercenary?" Leon asked.

"Who knows?" Li Yexing's answer to Leon's question seemed somewhat ambiguous.

"I thought after we went through some things together, you would be more honest with me," Leon said, sounding somewhat resentful as he followed behind Li Yexing.

"Well, then why don't you tell me why you're here? Mr. Honest?" Li Yexing retorted.

"I'm here to deal with the chaos in this area. As you can see, those guys are using B.O.W.s in the civil war. Because they are quick to dispose of the bodies of those infected, this matter has been suppressed for a long time, like an urban legend..."

Leon explained to Li Yexing without reservation.

"What I need to do is find evidence that the local armed forces are using B.O.W.s and bring it back to my country. This way, external forces will have sufficient reason to intervene in this internal conflict and put an end to the atrocities happening here."

"Not bad..." Li Yexing casually agreed. "That sounds very America-like."

"Okay, I've already told you my identity and purpose honestly. Now it's your turn," Leon said to Li Yexing, ignoring his sarcastic comment about America.

"Strange..." Li Yexing only furrowed his brow and whispered, "When did I say that if you told me the truth, I would be honest with you?"

"You bastard..." Leon cursed with a twitched eyebrow.

At that moment, Li Yexing suddenly stopped in his tracks, and Leon, who was following behind him, also stopped.

"Look over there," Li Yexing whispered to Leon, then stepped aside to let Leon move forward and peek in the direction he was pointing.

They saw a three-story building standing out among a pile of dilapidated shacks.

In reality, it was just a pile of junk stacked on top of one of the shacks, forcibly creating the illusion of height. On top of the junk pile, a Rebel Forces member smoking a cigarette stood out, wearing sunglasses, a dirty brown leather jacket, carrying an AK-47, with a burning bottle hanging from his waist, and waving a flashlight around, looking quite conspicuous.

"Dammit, that's my jacket!" Leon gritted his teeth and said, "That bastard is still alive... and he made my clothes so dirty!"

"Calm down, it's just a piece of clothing," Li Yexing patted Leon's shoulder and said, "But the real issue is how we can get over there. That high platform looks like it's used for village cadres' speeches, and the shacks around it are so cramped that it's actually more spacious on the other side."

"It's okay, that guy's wearing sunglasses," Leon said to Li Yexing, "On such a dark night, he can't see anything. We can just walk straight over."

"Wow, you really have a way with words," Li Yexing gave Leon a thumbs up.

"Okay, joking aside..." Leon smiled and said, "Wearing sunglasses on such a dark night will definitely affect his vision. What we need to do is wait for him to shine the flashlight in another direction and run to the building below him. That's his blind spot."

"That might be a bit difficult..." Li Yexing looked at the guy shaking the flashlight and said, "If we run too slowly and he shines the light on us, we're done for."

"Trust me, it'll be fine," Leon showed Li Yexing a confident smile, then seized the opportunity to pull Li Yexing and sprint towards their target.

Two people were running on the sandy ground without any cover. The Rebel Forces' searchlight swept past them, and the beam of light passed over their heads. If it had gone down a little further, the two would have been caught in the light.

However, just as Li Yexing and Leon breathed a sigh of relief, the black man who was scanning the light suddenly spat out his cigarette butt and stood up, yelling loudly in the direction of Li Yexing and Leon.

"Fuck! We've been discovered!" Although Leon didn't understand what the guy was yelling, it didn't affect his judgment of the situation.

Li Yexing reacted even faster.

The moment Leon said they had been discovered, he raised his gun and fired two shots to the chest and one shot to the head, directly killing the black man with a scream.

When Li Yexing had fired, Leon turned his head quickly and saw a group of Rebel Forces personnel in the spotlight, their faces shiny, holding what looked like pieces of meat, staring at them in confusion.

Leon and Li Yexing: ...
