[WDIDWAMGB] Chapter 93: We are Partners

"What was that just now?" Li Yexing furrowed his brows as he gazed into the darkness beyond the flames, unable to see through them.
"I don't know, but I have a bad feeling..." Kanan whispered.
"Okay, let's first discuss it," Li Yexing said. "Should we leave here and try to find a way out, or should we stay put and wait for rescue?"
"Wait for rescue?" Kanan's face showed a hint of disdain. "Who's going to rescue us?"
"Of course, it's my girls," Li Yexing said proudly. "They will definitely come down to find me, dead or alive."
"Are you talking about the one with the heavy machine gun or the one with the sniper rifle?" Kanan asked.
"Both of them are mine!" Li Yexing puffed up his chest, looking proud.
"With all due respect..." Kanan looked disdainful. "I think those two girls will be thrilled to see us both fall and follow Tricell Pharmaceutical back, taking your commission and going home."
"Whatever you say," Li Yexing shrugged. "I just think it's unrealistic for us to go out like this. Most wild animals are afraid of fire. As long as the truck is still burning, they won't come near."
As soon as he finished speaking, a flash of white light suddenly lit up, and a few seconds later, a thunderous roar exploded in the sky outside the rift.
Raindrops fell one by one, then suddenly turned into a downpour.
"Heh, you jinxed it! This truck won't burn for long..." Kanan laughed, catching the raindrops in her hand.
"Dammit! Fuck this rain! It's so heavy!" Li Yexing cursed in frustration. He turned his head, looking at her with a hopeless expression. "Let's go find a way out."
She shrugged and turned to leave, but he stopped her.
"What's wrong?" Kanan furrowed her brows.
"Come, let's shake hands," Li Yexing extended his hand to Kanan.
"Huh? Have you lost your mind in the rain? What does this mean?" Kanan was completely puzzled.
"No, I'm fine. It's just that the road ahead may be difficult," Li Yexing shook his head and looked at Kanan solemnly. "I hope we can temporarily put aside our prejudices and work together to deal with the problems at hand."
She hesitated as she looked at the hand extended by him, but eventually sighed and shook hands with him.
"Good," Li Yexing smiled brightly. "From now on, we are partners who trust each other."
"Whatever," Kanan said, holding her head with frustration. And so, two people who wanted to kill each other temporarily formed an alliance, braving the pouring rain, and heading towards the depths of the rift valley.
"By the way, can you still use that arm of yours?" Li Yexing suddenly asked as they walked on the muddy road.
"What do you mean?" Kanan asked.
"You know, the one that turned into a blade and sprayed blood," Li Yexing said, making an exaggerated motion. "For self-defense, in case we encounter anything down here without our guns. You could at least fight back with your blade arm."
"Did your head got damaged from the fall?" Kanan said, coldly. "Have you forgotten our fight? If I can use it as I wish, I would have used it directly to chop off your head when we first met."
"You're right," Li Yexing nodded. "But how does your power work? Is it reliable?"
"I'm not sure," Kanan shook her head with a bitter smile. "I don't use this power proficiently. I can feel that the thing they injected into my body is in my chest. Whenever it moves, I cough up blood. As for my arm, it's not entirely up to me. It mainly depends on that thing."
"Hmm, this parasite has a bit of an attitude huh? I've learned something new," Li Yexing said, somewhat surprised.
After a brief conversation, the two fell silent, and only the sound of raindrops hitting the ground could be heard.
"By the way, I have a question for you," Li Yexing said, seeming to be unable to stand the silence. "Tricell said that you could accurately predict their movements and launch attacks. I've always been curious, how do you accurately predict Tricell's movements?"
"That's a secret," Kanan replied.
"Come on, tell me. Aren't we partners who trust each other?" Li Yexing persisted.
"Hmm," Kanan frowned, thinking for a moment before whispering, "Actually, I'm not sure. I just feel what other people like me nearby are thinking. Well, you probably won't believe me even if I tell you."
"No, I believe you," Li Yexing shook his head. "Please continue."
She looked into his eyes and saw a seriousness written all over his face as if he truly believed what she was saying.
"Okay, since you know about the parasite, maybe you can explain what's happening to me," Kanan said, convincing herself. After a brief moment of thought, she spoke softly. "For some reason, I can sense those who have been parasitized like me. When they are near me, I can hear their thoughts and even influence them, causing them to stop any hostility towards me."
"So you were able to blend in with the rebel forces' convoy?" Li Yexing asked in surprise.
"That's right," Kanan nodded.
"Dominant Species Las Plagas? It doesn't make sense..." Li Yexing murmured to himself. "Why would Tricell inject a test subject with the dominant species? It's illogical. And if it's the dominant species, you should be able to directly control the actions of other low-level infected people. But if it's not the dominant species, then how can we explain your mental state still being sane and normal?"
As he pondered over her situation, Kanan suddenly stopped and stood still as if turned into a statue.
The rain poured down heavily from the dark sky, creating an uneasy atmosphere. Li Yexing tensed up and whispered to her, "What's wrong?"
In the darkness, her pupils suddenly shrank, and she quickly turned around, covering his mouth and pressing him against the rock wall.
His hot and moist breath touched her palm, but she was too preoccupied to pay attention. The presence inside her was sending her a warning, and her heart was beating wildly. There was no doubt that something terrible was approaching.
Li Yexing, who was pressed against the rock wall, stared motionless at her. The two of them, with their cold bodies, pressed tightly together, did not speak. He simply reached for the hand grenade at his waist in silence.
Faintly, She seemed to sense something approaching. It was close to her, but the pouring rain covered up the sound of its existence.
Li Yexing, who was being held down, gestured with a gentle wave of his hand that he would not speak.
She moved her hand away from him and followed the guidance of the parasite that was stirring inside her body.
Slowly, she lifted her head.
He followed her gaze upward, and whether it was an illusion or not, the darkness on the unlit rock wall seemed to be writhing.
Just then, a flash of white light suddenly lit up the rift valley, accompanied by a clap of thunder. In the darkness, his pupils gradually shrank.
What the hell was that?
