[WDIDWAMGB] Chapter 94: Halabaka, You are Amazing!
Added 2023-04-05 19:56:55 +0000 UTCAlthough it was just a moment, Li Yexing did see something hidden in the darkness.
That something was large, appearing to be over ten meters long at first glance. It crawled on the rock wall in a way that he couldn't comprehend, its body color seemingly blending with the rock wall.
It seemed to be... a lizard?
Kanan pressed against him, the two of them sticking tightly to the rock wall without moving, letting the rain wash over their bodies. After a few minutes, Kanan let go, taking a deep breath and saying, "That scared me..."
"Did you get a clear look at that thing just now?" Li Yexing furrowed his brows and asked.
"It was a lizard," Kanan wiped the rainwater off her face, saying, "It's just that it's too big, I don't know if it ate something bad."
"Heck, that thing seemed like a B.O.W. but, who would keep such a big creature in the middle of nowhere like this?" Li Yexing wondered, "Could it be that Tricell Pharmaceutical left it here on purpose, afraid that we wouldn't be completely dead? But their reaction is too fast, isn't it?"
"I don't think so," Kanan shook her head, saying to him, "Do you know where we are?"
"Malvia?" Li Yexing furrowed his brows and asked.
"No, I'm not talking about that," Kanan said to him, "Do you know Cannibal Valley?"
"Cannibal Valley?" Li Yexing asked, "What is that?"
"It's a local legend that I heard from a human smuggler who sells arms over here," Kanan said slowly, "They say that in Malvia, there is a deep and large valley called Cannibal Valley. It is said that a flesh-eating monster roams in Cannibal Valley, and it's a pet of some god. If anyone enters Cannibal Valley, the monster will devour them without hesitation, so once you enter Cannibal Valley, you are as good as dead."
"That god wouldn't happen to be called Halabaka, right?" Li Yexing asked with a curious expression.
"You know about it too?" Kanan exclaimed.
"Yeah, I heard it from the locals," Li Yexing nodded, "So it seems that this Halabaka is indeed an annoying god, keeping flesh-eating monsters in the valley and all that."
"Be glad I was the one who heard your words," Kanan pursed her lips and said, "The locals believe that this god is very powerful. If you talk like that in front of them, you'll get shot."
"Forget it," Li Yexing shrugged indifferently, "We are both used to bloodshed, how can we believe in such things and still make a living?"
After saying that, Li Yexing turned to look at her and said, "Don't you think so too?"
Then he noticed that she had stopped moving, her somewhat troubled gaze fixedly staring at the top of his head, not saying a word.
Seeing her reaction, he immediately fell silent. He slowly raised his head, without the illumination of lightning, he could only vaguely see the darkness wriggling above his head.
As the wriggling became more intense, their expressions turned ugly. The dark mass silently moved through the pouring rain and then emitted a deafening roar as it suddenly descended.
"RUN!" Li Yexing shouted loudly, taking a step forward to grab her hand, and then without looking back, he started sprinting ahead.
The next moment, there was a loud crash behind them as the thing fell from the rock wall. Hearing the sound coming from behind, he gritted his teeth and ran desperately while pulling her along.
Kanan forcefully shook off his hand and quickly overtook him with a speed faster than him.
"Ahh! Fuck this shit!" Li Yexing cursed, listening to the roar coming from behind.
Already exhausted, he had to squeeze out every bit of his potential and run as fast as he could. He could feel the monster chasing him from behind, its massive and heavy body stomping on the accumulated water on the ground, making a thudding sound, pressing on his nerves.
The creature seemed to be getting closer and closer.
He clenched his teeth, reached for a hand grenade from his waist, pulled the pin, and threw it behind without looking back.
With a loud explosion, the monster let out a miserable scream and seemed to have stopped in its tracks. He wanted to turn back and see what had happened, but he dared not. He could only keep his head down and follow Kanan, running forward.
After a brief pause, a terrifying roar came from behind.
The monster seemed to have been agitated and became even more frenzied, its body continuously rubbing and crashing against the nearby rock walls, causing the ground to tremble. The distance between them that had been pulled apart was rapidly closing.
Li Yexing could almost feel the creature right behind him, about to catch up. Looking at the corner ahead, he gritted his teeth, ran past it, and threw himself forward. The next moment, there was a loud crash from behind as the monster couldn't control its inertia and slammed into the rock wall.
The falling debris from the wall hit him, but he had no time to spare. He quickly got up, and almost rolled and crawled forward in a desperate sprint.
After a few short roars, the monster let out another deafening roar. The sound seemed angry, and he could feel its rage. Fortunately, the path ahead had become much narrower, which would restrict the monster's speed if it wanted to enter.
Listening to the roars and the sound of rocks being crushed behind him, Li Yexing, who was physically exhausted, felt a sense of despair.
As he ran frantically, Li Yexing yelled with his neck stretched out, "Halabaka, you're amazing! You're an amazing god! Don't let your pet catch up! I was wrong!"
As soon as the words fell, he saw Kanan's anxious face, waving her hands madly in front of him. When he ran over, she grabbed his wrist and pulled him into the narrow cave beside them.
Just as he was pulled in, the monster crashed into the entrance of the cave, causing rocks to continuously fall. He collapsed on the ground, gasping for breath. He finally had a chance to carefully observe this monster.
Although he could only see its head, he had to admit that this creature was really ugly.
Its head looked like a piece of rubber clay that had been roughly shaped and dried by a naughty child, with lumps resembling rocks on top, blending in with the color of the rocky walls. Its two large muddy eyes spun in their sockets, making a gurgling sound.
At this moment, it was angrily pounding the entrance of the cave with its hard head like a battering ram, scattering the rocks. It seemed to have realized its futile rage, and it glared at the two people inside the cave with a low growl of unwillingness.
Then it suddenly opened its mouth and let out a thunderous roar, revealing rows of razor-sharp teeth and a grotesque ball of flesh with waving tentacles stuck in its throat.
After venting its anger, the monster left in frustration.
Li Yexing didn't dare to relax, and he kept his nerves tense as he stared at the entrance of the cave until only the sound of rain remained nearby, before finally letting out a long breath.
A hand with abrasions extended in front of him, and a faint smile appeared on his face as he grabbed the hand in front of him, stood up, patted his buttocks, and whispered to Kanan.
"Well done, and... thank you."
