[WDIDWAMGB] Chapter 100: The Choice is Yours

As soon as Kanan finished speaking, the two fell silent. After a moment, Li Yexing's expression soured as he said, "I hope I'm wrong..."

"Me too," Kanan replied quietly.

After searching the communication room, Li Yexing led Kanan down the east corridor to the restroom. Suddenly turning to her, he asked, "Are you still searching?"

"Searching for what?" Kanan was still thinking about what Li Yexing had just said and didn't immediately understand what he meant. When she finally realized it was "restroom searching", a hint of annoyance crossed her face. "I'm not searching for anything!"

After the brief interruption, the two carefully searched the east corridor.

Most of the doors led to dormitories, some of which were unlocked while others were not. Li Yexing tried using the keys they had taken from the communication room, and some of the locked doors opened with some effort. However, the remaining doors were rusted shut.

After breaking one key, Li Yexing turned back to Kanan with a helpless look and said, "There's nothing here..."

"Let's go check the west side," Kanan whispered. "I remember the armory being in the west corridor."

The two crossed over the bones in the lobby and headed straight into the west corridor. After trying one key after another, they finally arrived at a large iron door that had been freshly painted.

"Please don't be locked..." Li Yexing murmured as he inserted the key into the lock. With a soft click, the door to the armory swung open smoothly.

"This is a bit unexpected..." Li Yexing whispered in surprise as he pushed the door open.

Kanan, who was waiting beside him, immediately entered the room with a knife in hand.

"Tsk..." Seeing the scene in the armory, Kanan couldn't help but frown.

The weapon racks were scattered about, and there were five or six blackened corpses lying haphazardly about, their heads and clothes riddled with bullet holes. In the very back of the armory, a corpse was seated against the wall wearing a security uniform. Its head was cocked to one side, and it held a rusty handgun. There was a clear bullet hole in its temple, and beside the body lay an empty shell casing.

"It's like a living hell..." Kanan whispered, frowning. "Even the cruelest battlefield wouldn't make one feel as nauseous as this. Wherever Tricell is involved, it seems to always turn into a mess."

"That's not entirely accurate..." Li Yexing, who had just entered the armory, teased softly. "It seems like any research facility that studies B.O.W.s, regardless of the company, ends up like this."

Li Yexing and Kanan carefully inspected each weapon rack as they stepped over the bones on the ground. Due to the lack of maintenance and the damp environment, all the weapons on the racks were unusable.

"This is ridiculous," Kanan muttered quietly.

But Li Yexing waved at her excitedly and called out, "Hey, come here, I found something good!"

With a puzzled expression, Kanan walked over to Li Yexing and saw him guarding several large unopened boxes in the corner, grinning proudly.

"These are new, and they haven't been opened yet," Li Yexing whispered.

Excited by his words, Kanan finally cracked a smile.

The two of them carefully lifted the boxes one after another and opened them up, revealing a collection of brand-new guns wrapped in thick grease. There were pistols, shotguns, and Li Yexing even found an HK-416 at the bottom of one of the boxes.

"We struck gold," Li Yexing exclaimed happily. "Quick, decide which ones we should take with us."

And so, the two of them each picked out the guns they wanted and laid them out on a nearby table. They dismantled each weapon and sat on chairs, quietly wiping them down with the old rags hanging in the storage room. During this time, Li Yexing casually asked Kanan, "What are your plans after we leave here?"

"I don't know," Kanan replied, shaking her head. "After we leave, we might have to continue fighting each other as we did before."

With a hint of regret on her face, Kanan continued, "To be honest, I had a great time with you. You're much better than those guys we used to fight against."

Li Yexing didn't say anything and simply lowered his head to clean his gun. He seemed to be deep in thought, and after a while, he suddenly stopped and looked up at Kanan. "Why don't you come with me from now on?" he suggested.

Kanan was a little stunned, seeming not to understand Li Yexing's words.

"What's wrong? Don't want to?" Li Yexing asked impatiently when Kanan didn't reply. "Don't underestimate mercenaries. My commission is the highest in all of Edonia!"

"No, no, no..." Kanan shook her head in confusion. "Did you get something wrong? Isn't it your mission to take my life? How can you explain to your employer if you don't kill me? What about your professional ethics?"

"I think... there's room for negotiation on this..." Li Yexing said with a smile, "Tricell's whole reason for wanting to kill you is because you keep causing trouble on their turf. As long as you're with me, their problem will be naturally resolved."

"No, you don't understand... you can't say that." Kanan shook her head.

"Why can't I say that?" Li Yexing interrupted Kanan somewhat rudely. "I'll just ask for less money from them."

"Then what was the point of me following them all the way from my hometown to this godforsaken place?" Kanan frowned severely. "I want Tricell to pay for what they've done, and you want me to compromise?"

"They will certainly pay for what they've done..." Li Yexing said. "This is my business, you don't have to worry about it, you just need to follow me."

"No." Kanan shook his head resolutely. "I don't trust you on this."

"To be honest, Kanan, if you insist on fighting me, then you're dead..." Li Yexing said. "Truth be told, the two girls who came with me, just like you, are B.O.W.s."

As Kanan listened to Li Yexing's words, she was stunned.

"No need to be so surprised. You're not that special, at least not as special as you think..." Li Yexing patiently said, "My experiences are quite unique, at least more unique than you can imagine. In the past few years, I've dealt with those monsters you mentioned quite often. From what I've observed, you wouldn't be able to defeat either of the two girls who are by my side."

Looking at Kanan's somewhat unpleasant expression, Li Yexing smiled and said, "Or maybe there's another way..."

As he spoke, Li Yexing took off the handgun from his waist and gently placed it on the table, saying, "You could just shoot me in the head now and then leave quietly. That way, you might not run into my girls. How about it? The choice is yours..."

He then pushed the handgun toward Kanan.

Without hesitation, Kanan grabbed the handgun and pointed it at Li Yexing's forehead, her eyes looking like that of a wolf. She said, "Did you forget our positions? Do you really think I wouldn't pull the trigger?"

"I'm leaving my life in your hands, do as you please..." Li Yexing gave a faint smile, looking straight at Kanan.

Kanan's expression turned gloomy and uncertain. After a few seconds, she seemed to have lost all her willpower and put down the gun, sitting back on the chair with a dejected tone, "No, we shook hands and became trusted partners. I can't pull the trigger..."

"Come on, if we're trusted partners, why don't you believe that I can take down Tricell?" Li Yexing smiled, taking back his own gun and secretly replacing the magazine with a new one. He squeezed out the empty shell he had picked up and said in a low voice.

"I still..." Before Kanan could say anything, a deafening roar suddenly rang out, twisting and piercing their ears in the vast open space, shaking their nerves.

The monster was here!

"Dammit..." Li Yexing's face flashed with nervousness. He quickly started wiping something with a cloth, saying in a low voice, "Clean it up quickly. Once we're done, we still have a business to take care of!"
