[WDIDWAMGB] Chapter 101: Something is not Right

After the terrifying beast roared, the pitch-black cave returned to its calmness.

In the faint light shining through the window, Li Yexing stepped out of the equipment storage room on the first floor of the security personnel office. He had a cigarette in his mouth and carried an HK-416 on his shoulder, an M870 shotgun on his back, a handgun on his waist, and shotgun shells hung on his bulletproof vest. He also had four fully loaded magazines of rifle bullets attached to his belt.

Behind him, Kanan held a cigarette and wore a black bulletproof vest. She carried two MP7 submachine guns and had two handguns on her waist, with a circle of submachine gun magazines hanging from her belt.

At this moment, both of them were fully armed.

"Do we need to keep searching upward?" Li Yexing turned around and asked.

"No need. Let's go directly to the largest building and see what's inside. Then, we'll take the plane and leave, while also getting rid of that damn big lizard. Then, we can leave this godforsaken place." After taking a puff of smoke, Kanan's face showed a confident madness, just like when Li Yexing first met her. It seemed that having a gun made her confidence somewhat inflated.

"I suggest not to provoke that lizard..." Li Yexing whispered, "The equipment we have in our hands were leftovers from those guys who played with it. There must be more people on their side, and we'll end up like them, retreating in a sorry state. I think if it's just the two of us... it's not enough."

"You are such a coward even with a gun," Kanan seemed a bit unhappy, but then said, "But what you said also makes sense. That thing can use its head to hit stones, so its skin is probably not ordinary. Anyway, let's go through that area ahead and enter the building."

"Sounds about right..." Li Yexing nodded.

Leaning against the window, Li Yexing carefully looked outside. When he saw that the big lizard was gone, he turned his head and whispered to Kanan, "Let's go."

After speaking, the two of them left the security building and headed towards the building located in the center of the great hole. Along the way, Li Yexing turned to Kanan and said, "I suggest we go around the middle of that tent."

"Why?" Kanan asked in confusion.

"Because we don't know where that thing is..." Li Yexing explained, "That thing is huge and the tent can't cover its body. So I guess it's lying on the rock wall. But the wall is too dark and we can't see anything. The open area in front of the building is too spacious. I'm afraid that thing will see us if we run straight over there."

Kanan thought for a moment and agreed with Li Yexing's reasoning. "Then let's follow your suggestion," she said softly.

With a consensus reached, Li Yexing led Kanan quickly into the tent area. Although most of the tents were relatively intact, there were still some twisted and scattered on the ground, which added a bit of difficulty to their movements.

When Li Yexing saw many broken tents on the ground before, he was a little puzzled. He thought that if it was only zombies, they shouldn't have caused this mess. Now it seems that the tent area was probably knocked over by a large lizard that he didn't know was hiding somewhere.

Carefully traversing the tent area, when they were only a short distance from the building, Li Yexing waved his hand to signal Kanan to follow and then quickly rushed over with low steps.

When they reached the door, Li Yexing's face instantly became very ugly.

Because the light was too dim earlier, Li Yexing didn't see it clearly until they got to the door. He found that the door was locked and there were dozens of iron bars, horizontally on the outside and vertically on the inside, which tightly sealed the door. On the other side of the iron bars, there was a large pile of rotten corpses, which looked disgusting.

Li Yexing abandoned the idea of entering through the main entrance and wanted to climb in through a window, but he found that all the windows on the first floor were blocked by rolling curtains.

"Can't get in?" Kanan asked in a low voice.

"Probably, it might be the defense measures of the research facility..." Li Yexing said softly as he looked at the pile of bodies blocked by iron bars in front of the main entrance. "After the incident, they locked down the entire building and blocked all the zombies inside, but they couldn't deal with it because they couldn't stop the big lizard in time."

"What do we do next?" Kanan asked in a low voice.

"Let me think..." Li Yexing frowned and thought for a moment, then suddenly said, "Oh right, I remember there's a document in the security building's communication room that mentions a backup power source behind the building. As long as we activate it, we can open the external sealing system of this building."

"Then what are we waiting for? Let's go find it!" Kanan said, frowning and adding, "But according to what you just said, the accident here happened months ago. Can the backup power source still work?"

"You better pray that it does, or we'll have to go back empty-handed..." Li Yexing said with a frown. "Let's go, be careful, and stick to the building."

The two of them were walking in tandem, closely following the building's wall, quietly and quickly circumnavigating the structure. They then located a massive warehouse connected to the building at the back, with red English letters spelling out "Power Room" on the side of the warehouse.

Li Yexing and Kanan stood by the door, Li Yexing took a deep breath, then slowly pushed open the door while pulling out the dagger from his waist and walking in. They saw that the emergency lights in the Power Room were still on. The small emergency lights emitted a terrifying red light on the wall. Although the brightness was extremely low, it was still enough to illuminate the entire Power Room. There was a body lying on the ground, but the degree of decay was unclear.

Li Yexing frowned, stepped forward, and crushed the head of the body with his foot. The body, without a head, twitched suddenly and then stopped moving.

"It's safe now, come in." Li Yexing turned his head and said softly to Kanan behind him.

Kanan entered the Power Room and saw a headless body lying on the ground. A look of disgust flashed across his face as he said, "You really are something else."

"I had to make sure it went peacefully." Li Yexing responded nonchalantly; he surveyed the Power Room, muttering to himself about backup power. "Got it. It's over here."

He found a machine with a dim red light and grabbed the valve on top. He turned to Kanan and asked, "Are you ready?"

"Hurry up, I can't wait to leave this godforsaken place," Kanan whispered, a hint of relief flashing across her face.

"Okay," Li Yexing said with a smile. He exerted some force on the valve and pulled it down hard.

As Li Yexing acted, the lights on the control panel came on one by one. Then the machine behind the control panel started running, emitting a loud roar that grew louder over time.

Soon, the whole building was filled with a sound that was like an air raid siren mixed with the sound of rolling shutters opening and closing, echoing throughout the empty space.

"Finally, we can leave..." Kanan breathed a sigh of relief.

"No, something is not right..." Li Yexing frowned, and his expression gradually became grim. "This sound is too loud..."

As soon as he finished speaking, a strange and distorted roar shattered the sound of the building restarting and reached their ears.

Li Yexing immediately put his dagger back in his waistband and pulled out his gun, saying, "Be careful! That thing is coming!"
