Li Yexing and Kanan went straight up to the third floor via the staircase that wound around the interior of the main hall. Upon leaving the hall and entering the corridor, they found the lighting to be inadequate, with some of the lights not working, either due to backup power issues or because the lights themselves were broken.

In fact, half of the lights were not functioning.

Initially, Li Yexing intended to lead Kanan directly to the staircase to exit the building. However, he changed his mind when he saw an archive room.

The door to the archive room was partially open, and in the dim lighting, Li Yexing could see a few files haphazardly placed on the shelves inside.

"Hey, Kanan," Li Yexing turned around and said to Kanan behind him, "Do you want to take a look at this?"

"Look at what?" Kanan, confused, followed his gaze and then raised her eyebrows, "The archive room? Why do we need to look at the archive room?"

"It's nothing. I just want to satisfy my curiosity," Li Yexing whispered as he pushed open the door to the archive room and walked in.

She thought about it for a moment and realized that it wasn't a big deal, and she was also curious, so she followed him inside.

At this point, the archive room had been almost half emptied out, as it seemed that someone had attempted to transfer the files during a mass evacuation.

Li Yexing grabbed a file at random and opened it, finding mostly information about equipment procurement, with most of it being cheap goods.

Suddenly, several HK-416 rifles stood out amongst the pile of cheap goods, despite the instructions on the top stating that they were to be equipped with HK-416 rifles in large quantities. This was followed by a large number of cheap goods.

"The instructions say to procure HK-416 rifles in large quantities, but the purchasing records show that a large number of cheap goods were bought," Li Yexing muttered to himself, puzzled, "What does this mean? Did the department in charge of equipment procurement misuse the funds?"

He tossed the document he had read onto the floor and grabbed another one to read. This one contained mostly information about daily necessities procurement, and the format was similar to the one he had seen in the first office building they entered.

There wasn't much useful information, and just as he was about to grab another file to read, Kanan suddenly waved her hand and said, "Hey! Li, you have to see this."

Li Yexing was distracted by her gesture and walked over with the file he had already picked up in his hand.

Kanan handed him the document she was holding and said, "Take a look at this."

He looked down at the file, which was filled with numerous professional terms that he couldn't understand, as well as intimidating organic chemistry equations.

"Do you think I can understand this?" Li Yexing frowned and asked her.

"Of course you can't understand this, but next..." Kanan seemed to be showing off, proudly flipping through the booklet in her hand. After a while, a full-page color photo appeared in front of him.

In the photo, there was a parasite. It didn't look very big, just a disgusting lump of flesh, covered with wrinkles and blood vessels, and there were obvious cutting marks on its body. There was a small caption below the photo, "Peeling sample after one week of incubation."

It looked like it was cut directly from the host's body.

"And this..." After Li Yexing finished looking, Kanan flipped to the next page of the file and pointed to a photo, saying, "Look at this guy."

"Code name LOM... Rock Snake?" Li Yexing frowned and said, "Isn't this that damn lizard?"

The photo was indeed that damn lizard, but it didn't seem to be as big as before. Compared with the researchers next to it, it seemed to be less than ten meters long.

The caption below the photo stated that it was developed based on the amphibian parasite B.O.W. found in Spain, using reptiles as the basis for a new project, and it was placed in the second-level D district laboratory.

The raw material was the South African pangolin lizard.

After adjusting its genes and infecting it with a parasite, this creature rapidly increased in size and had strong climbing and defensive abilities. It could resist small-caliber bullet shots, and it was recommended to observe its effects by injecting it with a new type of drug.

Li Yexing guessed that the reason why this lizard escaped was probably because of the new drug that made it grow too large.

Then, Kanan continued to flip through the file, and there were various photos in the document. Some were dissected black people, and some were bursting with bugs. Large chunks of flesh with tentacles tore the host's neck apart, or simply crushed the host's head, and drilled out from inside, looking extremely ferocious.

"My god..." Kanan looked at the black people in the photos, and a hint of fear flashed across his face, saying, "I won't turn into that too, will I?"

"It shouldn't happen." Li Yexing said to her.

This is not based on consolation, but rather on speculation based on the current situation.

The parasitic infection exhibited by Kanan is unprecedented and highly unique. Li Yexing is almost certain that as a normal soldier, Kanan could not have been injected with the Dominant Species parasite.

However, it is this ordinary parasite that, after parasitizing Kanan, not only did not make Kanan lose her mind but also gave her extreme powers similar to those of Krauser in Resident Evil 4, which can only be obtained by Dominant Species Las Plagas.

Kanan can even sense other infected individuals through her own parasite and forcibly eliminate their hostility.

Kanan's relationship with the parasite is like the relationship between Rita and the core of Goddess of Night: Nyx as if they were perfect puzzle pieces that merged into one.

The file detailed the purpose of the facility's establishment and the relevant cooperation projects with Tricell Pharmaceuticals. The organization that ran this facility obtained parasite samples from Tricell Pharmaceuticals in Spain and began joint research with them.

About a year ago, the organization reached an agreement with Tricell Pharmaceuticals' African Division to conduct large-scale experiments in Malvia.

Tricell Pharmaceuticals supported the Government Forces while the organization supported the Rebel Forces. Both sides provided parasites to their respective factions and continuously improved their products based on the battle situation.

The entire document did not mention the name of the organization. However, on the last page of the document, Li Yexing saw a logo - the Umbrella logo. The red part was all black, and the white part was covered in some kind of pattern, like a noble family crest.

Just as Li Yexing was shocked by this conclusion, Kanan suddenly raised her head and said, "Someone's here, above us!"

Hearing Kanan's words, Li Yexing gently put down the file in his hand, picked up his gun, and tensed his nerves. However, he didn't hear anything, so there was only one possibility left...

The arrival was a parasite-infected person.
