[WDIDWAMGB] Chapter 129: The Ordinary Nagaba
Added 2023-05-10 20:53:12 +0000 UTCAs evening approached, the group got off the Shinkansen and arrived in Nagaba City.
Sitting in the taxi, Li Yexing leaned his chin on his hand and observed the unfamiliar city through the car window.
The city was different from what he had imagined. In his mind, this Japanese small town would either be bright and modern or peaceful and serene with a hint of a Japanese-style atmosphere. However, upon arriving here, he found it surprisingly ordinary, with narrow streets and hurried passersby, as well as students laughing and chatting on the street after school.
If not for the blooming cherry blossom trees, the spotless streets, and the typical Japanese-style houses, he would have thought he had returned home.
Li Yexing, Lilith, and Kanan were squeezed into the backseat, and Kanan, apparently bored, started enthusiastically telling Lilith some adult and inappropriate jokes while Lilith leaned against him, expressionless, nodding along to her jokes, not knowing whether she was listening attentively or just humoring her.
Meanwhile, in the front seat of the taxi, Rita was chatting fluently with the young driver in Japanese. The atmosphere was friendly, and the two seemed to have had a good conversation. The driver smiled and said something in Japanese while looking at Li Yexing and the girls squeezed together with him in the back seat.
He understood what in the driver's mind was: "So envious."
After a while, the taxi stopped near a local residential area. The driver politely bid farewell to the group and then drove away.
"You can speak Japanese too?" Li Yexing asked Rita with a smile after the taxi left.
"I can only speak a little..." Rita smiled and said, "Just enough to communicate. I asked the driver about the hotel, and he recommended this place to me, saying that it's cheap and the environment is good."
Rita whispered, "But the driver suggested that we shouldn't go out at night. He said Nagaba has been a bit chaotic recently, with some gang conflicts..."
"Gang conflicts? It's just a bunch of sheep fighting over who has longer horns..." Li Yexing was not concerned about this and was more focused on their accommodation. Looking at the well-kept house on the roadside, he asked, "Are we staying here tonight?"
"Yes, Master," Rita replied with a smile. "We'll probably stay here for about a week until the local festival is over."
He thought for a moment and handed his wallet to Rita. "Never mind, I'll leave it to you."
"Okay, Master." Rita slightly bowed and then led him and the others into the hotel.
This is a very small hotel, which looks like it was converted from a residential building. The interior decoration of the room is mainly based on wooden materials, which gives him a rather special feeling. In front of the wooden counter of the hotel, there are several kind-looking elderly ladies sitting one after another.
As everyone entered the room, the old lady smiled and bowed, and spoke a sentence in Japanese, which he also understood; she was probably saying "Welcome."
With a smile on her face, Rita approached the old lady to chat. After a while, the old lady smiled and jotted something down in her notebook on the counter, then walked away.
"Master, please follow me," Rita smiled and waved at everyone.
Soon, everyone followed the old lady through a narrow corridor to a room.
After handing over the key to Rita, the old lady chatted with her for a few more moments before leaving with a smile.
Opening the room, the space inside was not large, with tatami mats on the floor and a small low round table. In the corner of the room stood a large wardrobe, next to which was a very clean bedroll. In the other corner of the room, there was an LCD TV.
"Yexing..." Just as everyone entered the room, Lilith gently tugged at his sleeve, her eyes shining as she asked, "Was that small lady a monster?"
Small lady?
He was slightly taken aback, but then he understood. She seemed to be referring to the innkeeper, the short elderly lady.
"How could she be a monster..." Li Yexing rubbed Lilith's little head and said, "She's just short."
"Can humans be that short?" Lilith seemed a little surprised and muttered to herself.
"What's so strange about that?" Li Yexing smiled and said, "She looks short because she's already very old."
"Oh..." Lilith seemed to have learned something new and muttered to herself, "So humans get shorter as they get older?"
As she spoke, Lilith turned her head and asked, "Will Yexing also become so short in the future?"
"It's unavoidable to get shorter..." Li Yexing laughed and said, "But I shouldn't become that short in the future..."
It seems like she is still immersed in cultural shock and can't seem to snap out of it. She kept muttering to herself, and suddenly it seemed like a light bulb lit up in her head as she exclaimed, "Lilith remembers that Miss Helen who always wants to die is also short. Is Miss Helen also old? Is she a monster?"
"Little Yellow Flower is not old, nor is she a monster..." Li Yexing affectionately stroked Lilith's head and gently replied, "She is simply short."
"Miss Helen?" Kanan, who was sitting cross-legged on the tatami mat, seemed to have caught on to something important. She raised her eyebrows and asked, "Who is that?"
"It's nothing, just a wealthy girl whom we have had some dealings with..." After thinking for a moment, Li Yexing answered, "And her mind isn't quite right."
"Miss Helen is a legitimate noble, and she is also pursuing Master," Rita explained with a smile to Kanan on the other side.
"What? Is that true?" Kanan looked shocked and exclaimed in doubt, "Did I mishear? This person really pursuing him?"
Before he could speak, Rita licked her lips with a smile and said, "Of course, Miss Kanan... you doubting it because you have yet to experience the might of Master."
"Yuck!" Kanan waved her hand in disgust and said, "You perverted maid, stay away from me..."
As Li Yexing casually threw down his backpack and sat on the ground, he turned his head and asked Rita, "What's our itinerary for the rest of the trip?"
"Our itinerary for the rest of the trip..." Rita thought for a moment and whispered, "First, we'll visit Nagaba. The cherry blossom trees here are beautiful, and there's a lively commercial street in the west of the city at night. We can also go to the nearby shrine where there's a natural hot spring. After the Nagaba festival is over, we'll head to Akihabara."
"Akihabara?" As soon as he thought about going to the holy land of otaku that he had longed for in his past life, a hint of anticipation appeared on his face.
"Akihabara?" Lilith tilted her head and asked expressionlessly, "What's Akihabara?"
"Miss, Akihabara is a world-famous electronics street..." Rita smiled and answered, "In addition to high-tech electronics, Akihabara is also famous worldwide for the development of games and animation industries."
"Games... animation..." Lilith muttered softly, then raised her hands and loudly exclaimed in an unemotional tone, "Let's go to Akihabara!"
