[WDIDWAMGB] Chapter 138: Incident and Request
Added 2023-05-20 17:41:52 +0000 UTCThe sun rose, and the cherry blossoms still had morning dew on their petals. However, the tranquility of the morning was shattered by the sound of sirens.
At this moment, an underground gambling den near the city center was surrounded by the local police force, with yellow caution tape sealing off the scene. The officers on the other side of the tape had serious expressions one after another.
Amidst the screeching brakes, a gray car arrived at the scene. As the car door opened, a young man wearing a white trench coat stepped out. He had short black hair and a tall, muscular figure. His expression was cold and stern, but his tiredness was evident on his serious face.
Quickly scanning the surroundings, the man waved toward a familiar officer, calling out, "Iguchi!"
The young officer named Iguchi was momentarily taken aback, then turned his head and saw the man in the white trench coat waving at him. He immediately ran over and said, "Officer Amon..."
The police officer, known as Amon, frowned and asked, "What's the situation?"
"We received a distress call from a nearby resident at around 6 AM, stating that there was a fight going on here..." Iguchi quickly reported the situation to Amon. "We arrived late, and all that's left inside are the bodies..."
"Are there any bloodstains, fingerprints, or surveillance footage?" Amon asked with a furrowed brow.
"No..." Iguchi shook his head. "Just like the other cases, the scene was too clean, and the hard drives were taken. Nothing was left behind..."
"Who are the deceased?" Amon asked.
"Yamada Hajime, a cadre of the Godakai, along with the bodies of four other members," Iguchi replied.
"Godakai..." Amon quickly recalled. The Godakai was a small violent yakuza gang that operated in the vicinity, mainly running underground gambling dens and high-interest loans, as well as controlling a few local shops.
While Amon was still contemplating, Iguchi couldn't help but complain, "This is really troublesome. How many cases is this now? Why are the local gangs so excited one after another these days? Can't they give us a break? Do they really think that we civil servants just sit in the office all day doing nothing?"
On the other side, Amon paid no heed to Iguchi's complaints. He patted Iguchi's shoulder and said, "I'll go inside and take a look."
"Take it easy, Officer Amon..." Iguchi looked at the weary Amon and said, "We are all sorry about Officer Makoto's situation, but..."
"Enough," Amon waved his hand to interrupt Iguchi. He whispered, "I understand."
Amon lifted the yellow caution tape and ascended the dimly lit staircase. He reached the second floor, where the incident had occurred. The scene on the second floor was in complete disarray. Although the bodies had been removed, large puddles of blood still stained the floor.
The once neatly arranged mahjong tables were now overturned, and mahjong tiles were scattered everywhere. At the staircase entrance, a forensic doctor wearing a mask, gloves, and a white coat had a worried expression on his face.
Seeing Amon standing on the staircase, the forensic doctor beckoned him over, saying, "Come up here directly, no need to worry about disturbing the crime scene... since there's nothing left behind anyway."
Upon hearing the forensic doctor's words, Amon nodded and entered the second floor. He turned to the forensic doctor and asked, "Is it the same as before?"
"Exactly the same," the forensic doctor nodded helplessly and said, "The victim was brutally killed with a random blade attack, but there's nothing left at the crime scene. No fingerprints, no blood samples, not even a strand of hair. It's incredibly strange."
Seeing that Amon remained silent, the forensic doctor continued, "Think about it, they were people of the underworld, right? Would the people of the underworld be killed without putting up a fight? But at the crime scene, there's no trace of the suspect's blood. If it weren't for the obvious signs of a struggle on the body, I would suspect that they stood still and let someone stab them one by one..."
Not paying much attention to the forensic doctor's words, Amon walked into the crime scene alone. He carefully examined the traces left behind, and indeed, as the forensic doctor had said, it was too clean here, nothing was left behind. Except...
Amon stared at the mahjong table nearby and slowly approached it. On the mahjong table, there was a small black spot. He gently extended his hand and wiped it off. The black spot disappeared. He raised his finger, stained with fine black ash, and sniffed it lightly.
It smelled burnt.
Instantly, a series of scenes flashed crazily in his mind. He looked up, whispering softly, "Kokuryukai..."
===
The body was enveloped in warmth, but her head still felt groggy. As her consciousness gradually returned, a severe and all-encompassing soreness washed over her body. Hitomi struggled to open her eyes and found herself looking at a familiar ceiling.
"Water..." she murmured, moving her lips quietly.
It seemed someone heard her call. With the sound of footsteps, the maid who spoke Japanese appeared within her line of sight. Shortly after, the man also appeared alongside the maid.
Li Yexing, squatting on the ground, looked at Hitomi, pale and lying under the covers. He furrowed his brow and asked Rita, "What did she say just now?"
"She said she's thirsty," Rita answered softly.
"Oh, I see..." Li Yexing nodded, then turned to Kanan, who was sitting cross-legged nearby, watching Lilith play a game. "Kanan, bring a can of beer."
"OK!" Kanan flipped over and quickly darted to the cabinet, taking out a can of beer and tossing it to him. He caught the beer effortlessly, shook it in front of Hitomi, and said to Rita, "Tell her this is all we have."
"Master, perhaps that's not appropriate..." Rita's face showed a hint of hesitation. "After all, Miss Chishima is the heiress of the Chishima Group. Treating her like this, wouldn't it be too disrespectful?"
"Hah..." Li Yexing was ultimately soft-hearted despite his sharp tongue. He pulled the tab of the beer can, took a big sip, then told Rita, "Go get her a bottle of mineral water."
"Very well, Master." Rita smiled slightly, stood up, and soon returned with the bottle of mineral water.
Twisting off the cap, Hitomi struggled to sit up, enduring the soreness that permeated her body. Trembling, she took the mineral water and had a sip, then quietly thanked Rita in Japanese.
"Now, can you speak?" Li Yexing, still squatting beside her, furrowed his brow. "I truly admire you. It's quite something for you to kneel at the door all night. Is that your yakuza spirit?"
After Rita made some modifications to his words, she translated them into a more dignified statement for Hitomi.
Upon hearing this, Hitomi shook her head and whispered something to him. Although her voice sounded weak, her attitude was resolute.
"Miss Chishima says that as the next leader of the Chishima Group, she has already made up her mind to give everything for the sake of the group and the commercial street," Rita translated to Li Yexing.
Li Yexing suddenly raised his head and asked, with an inexplicable smile on his face, "If that's the case then... what if I want your body?"
"Master? What did you say?" Rita doubted if she had misheard.
On the other side, Lilith forcefully pushed the analog stick of her PSP into the device, while Kanan's gaze unconsciously drifted over.
"Translate it to her," ignoring the subtle atmosphere in the room, Li Yexing said coldly, "Ask her if she's willing."
Rita forced a smile and conveyed to Hitomi that he wanted to spend the night with her.
In the next moment, Hitomi's already sharp gaze became even sharper, as if she wanted to kill him with her eyes. She angrily said something to him, and Rita translated, "Miss Chishima says she initially thought you were a righteous man, but she didn't expect you to make such a despicable request. She says you have insulted her dignity as a warrior..."
"So, it means you won't do it?" Li Yexing laughed and raised an eyebrow. "In other words, sacrificing everything for the Chishima Group is just empty words?"
Rita translated his words to Hitomi, who instantly froze in place. After a few seconds, she lowered her head and tightly gripped the blanket, whispering something quietly.
Rita translated, "Miss Chishima says that if you insist, she... can offer herself."
"Goddammit!" Li Yexing waved his hand dismissively and looked at Hitomi in annoyance. "I'm truly impressed by you. You win..."
Running his hand through his short hair in frustration, Li Yexing furrowed his brow. "Now, tell me about your request."
