[WDIDWAMGB] Chapter 140: Mission Start
Added 2023-05-24 17:52:06 +0000 UTCUnlike the harmonious and warm Commercial Street, the seemingly bustling Eastern District is permeated with a taste of darkness and evil. The people here hurry along, seemingly eager to escape the oppression in the air. This is hell for ordinary people but a paradise for those sewer rats.
Having spent years rolling in Roples, Li Yexing is exceptionally familiar with this nauseating smell.
Taking out his phone, he stands in an inconspicuous corner, silently flipping through the blueprint of the underground casino in the Eastern District provided by the Chishima Group. Kanan leans over and whispers, "Is this reliable?"
"It doesn't matter," Li Yexing whispers back. "It's just dealing with a few rats. As long as we take care of everyone who gets in our way, it'll be fine."
"You may not care, but my mission is to take the hard drive and make things easier for you," Kanan murmurs softly. "If this map is off, I'll be screwed."
"Just focus on getting it. If we don't get it, it doesn't matter," Li Yexing casually remarks. "As long as we finish the job quickly."
After saying that, he lightly presses the communicator at his ear and asks, "Can you hear me, Rita?"
"Perfectly clear, Master," Rita's voice comes through the communicator.
"Rita, remember, you and Lilith are in charge of handling any unexpected emergencies," Li Yexing instructs. "After all, your actions draw too much attention and are not suitable for the situation here."
"Even Miss and I can fight like ordinary humans," Rita's voice carries a hint of resentment, but then she seems to let it go and says with a smile, "But we'll follow your arrangements, Master."
With that, Rita on the other end of the communicator chuckles and says, "Miss Kanan, cherish this time alone with Master."
"Tsk," Kanan clicks her tongue in annoyance, but she no longer has an interest to argue with Rita.
"By the way," taking advantage of the lull before the operation, Li Yexing suddenly turns to Kanan and asks, "If you were the leader of the Chishima Group, what kind of assignment would you propose?"
"If it were me, I'd probably consider assassinating the leader of the Kokuryukai," Kanan thinks for a moment, uncertain, and continues, "It won't solve the problem, but we might as well deal with the person causing the trouble first."
"You see, that's the difference in thinking between us and those guys," Li Yexing whispers. "These gangsters from civilized countries are just pitiful souls who rely on the government's protection to earn their bread within their little circles. Now, someone suddenly emerges who doesn't follow the rules of their circle, so they're all in a panic, not knowing what to do."
Pausing for a moment, Li Yexing continues, "Actually, the leader of the Chishima Group does have some courage. In order to deal with Kokuryukai, who doesn't abide by the circle's rules, he chose to hire us, who are also outside of that circle."
"But the scale is still too small..." Kanan intercepted his words and said, "We had a chance to directly crush Kokuryukai outside their circle, but he chose to drag Kokuryukai back into a smaller circle. It's so petty."
"Perhaps that guy has his own considerations..." Li Yexing whispered, "Maybe he lacks confidence in us, maybe he fears a full-blown war with Kokuryukai, or maybe he's afraid that Chishima Group won't be able to withstand the chaos caused by Kokuryukai's breakdown."
"Speaking of which, I suddenly feel a bit sympathetic towards that guy..." Kanan chuckled, "He lives in such a stable world, yet he's constantly being restrained. On the other hand, look at us. We may live in a trashy city where our houses can be blown up at any moment, but we live freely."
As soon as the topic of houses being blown up was mentioned, Li Yexing felt a surge of anger in his chest. His expression instantly turned grim. He took out his phone, glanced at the time, and it seemed about right. He put the phone back in his pocket and pressed the communication device near his ear, saying, "Rita, we're going in."
"Rita is ready on this side too, ready to report the situation outside, Master," came Rita's reassuring voice from the other end of the communication device.
"Finally starting!" Kanan rubbed her fists together, looking somewhat excited. She turned her head and headed towards the underground casino, but Li Yexing immediately pulled her back.
She looked at him with confusion.
He took out a black balaclava from his pocket and directly put it on his head, resembling a terrorist from the early days of Counter-Strike.
"Oh! I almost forgot!" Kanan suddenly realized, reaching into her pocket and taking out the same balaclava as him. She put it on her head and whispered, "It's a bit tight... I'm really not used to this."
"Alright, let's get to work." Li Yexing patted her shoulder and led her toward the underground casino in the Eastern District of the city.
The casino's entrance was not large and had no signs. There was only one prominent glass door. Li Yexing pushed the door open with Kanan and ignored the small-time hooligan smoking in the ground floor corridor, walking straight ahead.
Seemingly sensing something amiss, the smoking hooligan lifted his head to look at the masked Li Yexing and Kanan. He loudly spoke in Japanese, apparently wanting to stop them, but they had no intention of paying him any attention.
Seeing that they didn't react, the hooligan flicked his cigarette butt away, hands in his pockets, hunched over, wearing a displeased expression. He continued speaking in Japanese while walking towards them. He reached out his hand to grab Kanan's balaclava, but just as his hand touched hers, she suddenly turned around, grabbed his hair, and forcefully slammed his head against the nearby wall. The hooligan immediately went silent.
Li Yexing and Kanan casually ignored the small gangsters and turned their heads. Then they saw a man in a suit, with a somewhat sleazy appearance, standing at the stairway door, staring at them in astonishment.
In the next moment, the man quickly turned his head and ran up the stairs while shouting something.
"Oh well, we've been spotted..." Kanan shrugged her shoulders.
"It doesn't matter," Li Yexing said. "We didn't plan on sneaking in secretly anyway. I'm more concerned about them calling the police than anything else."
With that, the two of them walked up the stairs to the second floor.
As soon as they reached the stairs, the door on the second floor swung open. The sleazy man in the suit pointed at the two individuals on the stairs and shouted loudly. Immediately after, the group of eccentrically dressed gangsters behind him brandished their clubs and charged toward the two.
"I'll clear the way," Li Yexing said.
Seeing one of the gangsters running ahead and reaching Li Yexing, he howled and raised his baseball bat, fiercely swinging it at Li Yexing. Without dodging or evading, Li Yexing extended his arm and directly withstood the blow.
"Is that all you've got? Did you skip breakfast this morning?!" Li Yexing shouted.
In the bewildered eyes of the gangster, Li Yexing snatched the baseball bat from him and swung it backhandedly, forcefully hitting the gangster's head. The gangster let out a heart-wrenching scream, clutching his bleeding head as he tumbled down the stairs.
The gangsters rushing down the stairs in a frenzy came to a halt.
"Wow..." Kanan whispered softly behind him.
Seeing the lackeys hesitating, the sleazy man in the suit immediately grew angry and shouted loudly. The group of gangsters, with terrified expressions, began yelling while wielding their clubs, trembling as they launched a suicidal charge toward Li Yexing and Kanan.
As the gangsters formed a queue and charged down, Li Yexing remained calm. He swung his bat like playing whack-a-mole, and soon, there was no one left on the stairs. Meanwhile, at the bottom of the stairs, a group of gangsters lay in disarray, clutching their heads, screaming, and rolling on the ground.
