[MHCISQD] Chapter 252: More Dangerous Than Ghost
Added 2023-06-16 20:21:15 +0000 UTCHeading downstairs, Renault called out to Hado, and the two of them began investigating the surroundings, preparing to approach the local residents and inquire if anything strange had happened.
"Strange occurrences? Well, apart from that haunted house, nothing unusual has happened in our homes," one resident replied.
"Are you here to investigate that house? Many people have already come, even those who just wanted to jump on the bandwagon, but they found nothing. You might be wasting your time," another resident added.
"I think we should just demolish and rebuild it," one resident suggested.
"I recently moved here, so I'm not sure, but I haven't heard any strange noises at night. It seems like only those who have lived here for some time would notice," another resident chimed in.
After wandering around and asking several people, they returned to the house.
Pouring two glasses of water, Renault handed one to Hado and said, "As expected, it's just as we anticipated. The issue seems to be limited to this house and hasn't spread elsewhere."
Holding the glass, Hado looked bored and said, "Renault, when do you think we'll find a ghost?"
"Didn't I say we should wait until tonight? If we don't find anything during tonight's investigation, we'll have to consider the original homeowner's opinion on how to handle this house," Renault explained.
Renault couldn't believe how curious she was about these supernatural events, like the so-called ghost.
"Ahh! Do we have to wait until tonight? That's going to take forever!" Hado exclaimed after checking the time and realizing it was only noon.
"I brought my laptop. If you get bored in the afternoon, you can watch movies or do something to pass the time in one of the guest rooms upstairs, except for the master bedroom," Renault suggested, taking out his phone. "But since it's almost noon now, let's have lunch first. Senpai, what would you like to eat? I can order takeout."
"Really?" Hado brightened up at the mention of food.
"Of course, since we're not making any progress with the investigation right now, let's prioritize filling our stomachs." Renault glanced through the takeout options on his phone and said, "By the way, we'll cook our own dinner tonight. We can order ingredients from a store that delivers, and then prepare it ourselves. I don't feel comfortable relying solely on takeout."
Soon, Hado joined in and selected a restaurant specializing in eel rice, with prices being moderate.
Renault also found a supermarket that delivered ingredients and placed an order.
After a simple lunch, Hado went upstairs to explore, while Renault stayed downstairs, texting with Mikoto.
Mikoto: "Huh? Urban legend? Supernatural events? Sounds really interesting!"
Almost forgot, she's also a curious-type.
Mikoto: "So, did you find anything during your investigation, Senpai?"
Renault: "Not yet, but I feel like there's something off about this house. There might be something hidden, but it's well concealed. I'll think of a way to approach it tonight. I can't just leave it alone."
Mikoto: "Are you worried something might happen? But nothing has happened so far, right?"
Renault: "Just because nothing happened before doesn't mean it won't happen in the future, especially when it comes to these untraceable things. They're the most troublesome."
Mikoto: "That's true, but Senpai, you should be careful!"
Renault: "Don't worry, you know my abilities, right? Besides, I'm not alone. Hado-senpai is here too."
Regret filled Renault as soon as he sent that message. He shouldn't have mentioned Hado, the girl who was on this mission with him.
However, Mikoto's response was not what Renault expected. She replied, "That's true, but since you're a guy, you should look out for the other person, even if she's a senpai!"
Why did she turn around and start lecturing him? It's quite different from her usual personality. Renault almost thought that it wasn't Mikoto operating on the other end of the screen.
Little did he know that in the few days he hadn't returned, Mikoto had been frequently dragged by her mother, Misuzu, to make up for lessons and learn how to treat a boyfriend. She had become a completely different person.
After chatting for a while, it was time for Mikoto to attend her afternoon classes. Renault put away his phone and lay down on the sofa in the living room, ready to take a nap.
Half an hour later, Hado, who had turned the upstairs upside down, came downstairs looking bored. She spotted Renault resting with his eyes closed on the sofa.
Blinking her eyes, Hado walked over to the sofa next to Renault, took out the laptop, put on headphones, and silently started watching something.
When Renault woke up groggily in the afternoon, he realized it was almost three o'clock and he had slept for nearly two hours.
Not wanting to disturb Hado, who was still dozing off on the nearby sofa, Renault got up and went upstairs to double-check.
"There's still nothing here. It's hidden really well, and they have enough patience."
After only two minutes upstairs, Renault came back down. It wasn't that he didn't want to continue the investigation, but he already knew that there was something here. However, he didn't discover it himself; it was Evolto who noticed.
Using Renault's vision and strength, Evolto subtly sensed some changes in the room. But it didn't make Renault too anxious. He aimed to handle it all in the evening.
Although he didn't reveal much information, Evolto provided Renault with some support, including another Fullbottle, in addition to the Unicorn Fullbottle he used in the morning.
A Phoenix Fullbottle.
With two mythical beast bottles, it should be enough without relying on the Driver's power. During the day, the energy must have been leaking out, which is why it wasn't detected.
Renault entered the kitchen and started preparing dinner.
As the aroma gradually wafted out of the kitchen, Hado finally woke up and stumbled her way into the kitchen.
Upon seeing Renault's fluid movements, she became fully awake.
"Wow! Renault, my kohai, you're so talented at cooking!"
"It's alright, Senpai. Go freshen up, and we'll be able to eat soon," Renault turned to look at Hado and said, "After we finish eating, we'll force the culprit of this house out tonight."
"Huh? Is there really a ghost? A ghost!"
Hado rushed over, her eyes shining with excitement.
"If it's a ghost, probably not. It might be something even more dangerous." Recalling what Evolto had warned him to be cautious about, Renault narrowed his eyes.
As for the 'dangerous' in his words, Hado seemed to completely ignore it and was just eagerly anticipating tonight's action.
