Slave To The Funk - 1994 Demo

Good morning guys! I remember writing and recording this demo in a single afternoon, it was maybe a Friday, I think January or February 1994. I loved it from the first moment and was very excited about it (I listened to it for years), but not one person I played it to got the vibe or the meaning of it. I didn't care, I was sure it would have its moment. As a curiosity, the "baby" line behind me was sung by a very famous jazz singer I was close to (not that close, guys!) in Valencia at the time. She came for a coffee. I dared her and she did it playfully.

The finished demo sounded very strange at that time, far from what you'd hear on the radio. I knew I was on to somethin'. There were three attempts to produce the song for other artists over the years, 2 ladies and a guy tried, but never got it right, so in the end I stopped those productions. It had to be right. I never thought I'd end up singing it myself, but when I took on the challenge of finally becoming an artist in 2015, this song was on the short list. I was scared and full of doubts until I found the key within myself to perform it, and it makes me very happy that I was able to do it, because now (on the "Songs For A Better Future" album) it really sounds like I dreamed it would.
