As a tradition, I always put something made of gold on my glass for the first toast of the year. I've been using the same token since New Year's Eve 1989 to 1990, a gold coin I bought at the Opera in Vienna (Austria) that year at the New Year's Eve concert I was lucky enough to attend.
There have been one or two exceptions when I've made the toast with a ring or a gold chain, but it's usually the coin that does it. I have a few "superstitions", one of them being that the first 12 hours of January 1st will determine what comes that year, so I always try to have a good time โบ๏ธ
