On January 21st, 2011, Renee and I uploaded the first Alpha Flag cover to the internet. I spent a large portion of 2020 nervously eyeing my work calendar and stressing about not having enough time to tetris anything meaningful into it.
But! Due to some fortuitous timing, Renee and I have both had (okay, also aggressively made) some space for a real celebration of the anniversary of Alpha Flag!
Over the last couple of weeks, I drew the remaining pages of Hotel, the current chapter (paused in 2017). Now that Renee has almost finished coloring (she's currently doing finishing touches on the last page), I wanted to let you guys know that these pages exist. I'll post them here this week, and then on the site in a batch on the 21st.
In finding my rhythm on Ferrochrome over 2020, making time for Alpha Flag again has been a big priority and I wanted to make sure I could return with something to show for it. Rounding off issue four is a big milestone for the comic, because it's what I've always considered the end of the first act. I hope it still resonates with you in 2021 like it did in 2011.
I'm currently turning the original issue 5 skeletal outline into chapter scripts, but that's a concern for after the anniversary.
My first drawing of 2021 was a reinterpretation of the original Alpha 00 cover--I thought it would be the most immediate way to see how far my art has come in the intervening years, and I'm excited to see what she does with it.
