April 3 Patreon & Channel Update

Hey everyone! If you're reading this, THANK YOU for being a patron and for helping our team run! We quite literally could not do any of this without you. That said, we figured we'd run some ideas off of you all about both Patreon and the channel itself to see what you would be interested in seeing in the future. Please let us know your thoughts!

April 3 Patreon & Channel Update

Comments

I love these changes, I'm so excited to see where you go with this! I've loved the more creative stuff you've done, so really looking forward to see what happens next.

The changes make sense to me with the way YouTube has been going, and I'm excited to see some of this new stuff on your channel! But one of my favorite things has always been your let's plays, so I have to add to everyone else saying PLEASE upload VODs of your twitch streams. Twitch is just not a good platform for watching VODs, and like a lot of people, I can almost never watch a stream live with my schedule. You could even make a new channel just for the stream VODs so that they don't clog up your regular channel. (For example, the way Day9 does this is great, broken up into 30-ish minute chunks all uploaded at the same time.) Please find some solution that is not us having to watch the VODs on twitch!

Love this look for you. I totally love these changes and will certainly continue supporting you.

Just wanted to say after i watched the YouTube update "Time for a Change" while i'll miss some of the old content i know and love im excited to see you committing to making the kind of content that YOU love. When it comes down to it we all watch you to see you act like a goof and truly enjoy the game you're playing. I'm excited to see you changing things up and choosing to do this thing the way you love. The rest of us are in good hands :)

Can't believe I missed this update initially :/ either way I think this idea moving forward is fantastic for your channel i think you can make a tonne more cool stuff if you shift this around this way. (I said it before but the gentle man's hentai club might be the purest comedy I've ever seen despite it's content). It seems like the general consensus through is concern about twitch VODS. Their platform for watching videos is a lot clunkier than youtube's which is probably something people won't vibe with easy. Like I love Dodger's stuff for example, but I only get a chance to watch her vods on twitch every now and again. On the other hand people like Criken and Vinesauce who still upload to a wnd channel are alot more accessible to watch. Just something I thought I'd bring up.

I agree with the sentiments expressed in the comment section. Please ppload your VODs to Youtube at some point afterwards. Even unedited is fine. Last i heard, twitch still deletes your VoDs after a given time. I love going back and watching old playthroughs of yours, especially SGS, and losing that would be very sad. Plus, the video player might be good for stream, buts its pretty clunky for VoDs.

What you want to do, makes perfect sense. I always wondered why you didn't move your "Let's Plays" to Twitch years ago. It is a much better format for playing a game for hours and it is much easier for you especially. As long as you keep ALL of your VODs for a long time (like years) or let a subscriber move your Twitch VODs to youtube before they disappear from you Twitch channel. And as long as we are providing feedback, I love SCS, Multiplayer Mayhem, your duos with Doogs, and your playthroughs of Epic length games (things like Skyrim, Far Cry, absolutely love, love, loved Dishonored and Witcher 3 playthoughs!!!) What I don't care for and never watch are the RPG streams (Sunfall, Oddballs), the WoW playing (yuck!), or the small potatoes game playing (things like platformers, retro games, metrovanias, etc. My 2 cents, but on balance I love what you do and have since I started watching you and Doogs in 2012.

You are on to something, Jesse. Go for it!

i only just became a patron of you but i love your lets plays like they were the main pull for me but then i got to know the on screen jessie and i love the way of the Cox but if you do mainly move the lets plays over to twitch will they be archived?

josh abbey

I really like the content you do with others like GHC, SWNCBC, and C&C. I can't say that I watch a lot of Lets Plays in general. So the idea of an edited streamlined game session seems interesting to me. Also feel free to try this format with good games/shows too. I would love to see a Gentlemens Game Club: Cyberpunk or a Gentlemens TV Club: The Dragon Prince in the future.

Late to the post, but figured I'd leave a comment. Over the last few years, I have loved all the Co-Lab stuff you put out, between Scary Game Squad, joining various RollPlays, and now Gentlemen's Hentai Club. Not to mention producing games like Monster Prom! It's all great stuff. I didn't subscribe to Patreon to tell you what to be doing, I'm just here because I like your content, the work you put out with friends, and anything crazy you happen to jump into. Whatever your plans are, I'll gladly support you :D As for any reward related stuff, the only thing I'm a little sad about is that there can only be 1, maybe 2, winners per give-away. Giving hats or shirts to everyone would be unpractical, but maybe have a certain number of items available, so more people can win? Maybe 25 shirts, or a couple of dozen hats, something like that.

As someone who (to this day) still goes back and rewatches ALL your LP series, I will most cetainly be disappointed that you wouldn't be doing them in the same format. However as someone who makes his own LP series on YouTube (Just started as I was inspired by you) I know how hard it is and I will always support you no matter what choices you make. Do what makes you happu, Jesse. Because a happy Jesse is a more prolific Jesse, and a more Prolific Jesse, and a more prolific Jesse, means a more happy audience.

My favorites are the collabs that you do, like with Dodger and Octopimp. There's something that's gained by having a second or third person you can riff with that is almost missing from single player let's plays. That being said I still watch all the Jesse-only stuff too!

Not gonna lie - my favorite Jesse Cox content are the long single player let's plays, like Dishonored and the Witcher. I love your focus on lore and all that. God do I want a Cyberpunk let's play, haha. Still, I understand that stuff isn't really feasible anymore on youtube...Above all however I just want you to do stuff that makes you happy. That's all that matters ultimately.

I'm very much the kind of fan that loves and watches every video you do. I watch for you (and your friends) because I find you entertaining and hilarious. So really all I care about is that you're having fun and actually making enough money to make things viable for you, so I say go for it man!

Jonathan O'Brien

I hope the game Anniversary streams make a comeback, I know it's tricky to pull off with people having different schedules, but the Chrono Trigger and Super Mario RPG Anniversary streams were a blast. That's why it was a bit upsetting that the FF VII stream didn't materialize, but it's understandable. Here's hoping you can pull it off in the future along with the other Final Fantasy games, namely 8 and 9, or any game really that was important to you or to gaming. Davis has to be on FF VIII. XD Also your Just Chatting streams were greatly appreciated, even if it doesn't become a weekly thing anymore, maybe once a month? Those were also great. Thanks for everything, will continue to support you as long as I'm able to.

Alright I am late to the game but I do agree with you. I love your colab stuff with your officemates and stuff that you are passionate about. I think Youtube is not as good for lets plays and I would much prefer to have you maybe have a bit more of a structured Twitch Live streaming schedule that isn't mostly just WoW leveling. I got into your channel a long time ago through the start of your Terraria series and I realized recently that back then almost every series you had you were working with others and Your passionate personality just amplifies when working with people and honestly I have missed that on your youtube channel until recently with SGS and Animoofighters and the like. I would be interested in seeing you flex your artistic side not relating to games like maybe some sort of history related series or something. Your best stuff to watch is when you are happy doing it and personally I say screw the old lets plays; I dont care if you finish Skyrim if it is just an obligation and chore. I want to see you have fun and be happy.

The videos and parts of videos that I like the most are those supercuts, like when you fought the first mini-boss in Sekiro. Seeing you struggle on it was funny for a while, but once you sped it up and just did a big "struggle supercut", it became very enjoyable to watch. I think where I'm getting to with this is, do more supercuts like that one. Instead of struggling with a part for 30 minutes, make it a 5 minutes segment of a few failures and the success. You have an editor now, use 'em!

Also, if the Tropico video is the kind of thing you wer thinking along the lines of, I am all in. I loved that video and it felt really fun.

MsDiz Storment

I've been around for a while watching your stuff. I started when Terraria was coming out and I still remember the first episodes of Duke Nukem and Deus Ex. And I watched them religiously. obviously i still support you and love your content, but lately I find myself avoiding starting a new series because I dont know if it will get finilshed. Maybe thats harsh and I dont mean it to be honestly. I love your stuff and you are one of 2 or 3 youtubers i actually watch regularly. But man, Im still watilng for Omicron and Witcher 3, which is why I would fully support a more condensed version of these. Especially witcher 3, which is hundreds of hours. thats a LOT and a heavily edited series of videos of that would be way more approachable than 100's of videos. I'm sticking around no matter what but I think that in this world of decay, change can really be a huge positive thing. especially if it invigorates you as the creator.

MsDiz Storment

Personally, I fully support the move. I loved these gentlemen's club videos and I have to say, I watch maybe the first one or two videos of a new series you put out tops. I just don't have the time to invest in it if I don't like the game, and if I do like it, I'll pick it up myself. One caveat is stuff you do with other people, like some of the Dodger let's plays. I'll spend time to watch that stuff, because it often feels more talk showy. I'll likely watch much more of your content in this new proposed format.

Leon931

Yeah I agree, I think it would be pretty silly to expect a continuation of playthroughs like Skyrim. I've been a fan for pretty much almost eight years as well and when I was younger I would watch whatever the newest Jesse let's play would be after school but now I have a really hard time staying caught up on the long running series.

Don't go back and finish old series if you're not into them anymore - if it's not going to be fun for you, then I don't want you to do it! I get the sense that you're planning on doing them out of obligation, and while everyone may not feel this way, as a fan of nearly eight years, I'm willing to let some things die. There's plenty of new games and new things you could be doing that I think will be better in the end for you, for me as a viewer, and for the channel as a whole. I want you to be able to focus on the future instead of worrying about stuff that's in the past, especially if it doesn't really interest you anymore. My favorite videos are the ones where you're playing games with your friends and having a great time - that's entertaining enough for me. I also personally love hearing your thoughts/opinions/reviews/theories even if you're not playing games, which is why I love the pods so much (sidenote, you could start a series where you make Crendor watch all the movies he says he'll watch on the pod but then never does and review them together.) I also think you're a great storyteller - I loved Good Game, I loved Nebula Jazz, I haven't had a chance to catch up on Oddballs in a while but I loved what I saw of that, and I'd love to see you explore more of that in the future. Basically, I want you to take my money and use it to make things that you want to make and to talk about things that you want to talk about, because I trust that after eight years there's a good chance I'm gonna like what you have to say. I know that kind of feedback might not be that helpful for you with figuring out where you want to take the channel, and I know you feel a sense of responsibility to deliver content that patrons want to see, but that's just my two cents. I'd be really happy if my monthly contribution can help you take those ideas that make you go "oh man, that's so cool, but how am I ever gonna pull that off?" and make them happen.

I totally support the move towards more structured content. However, I will say I do think there's a lot of value in the let's plays of narratively focused games. I really enjoy discovering the story along with you, hearing your theories and predictions, or getting to see your mind get blown by some big twist. The Spiderman LP I think is a fantastic example of something unique that let's plays can bring to your channel that some of the other shows you do don't necessarily. Just my two cents.

Colby Kline

Life is too short, do what you like to do. And since you apparently have a backing enough to support you and your team, I don't see anything standing in your way. Loved the Hentai club and the format, run with it.

hell yea man! make the content you want to make, the hentai club was hilarious and if thats the kind of format you want to make stuff in do it.

Ben Reichertz

I'm okay with whatever you do with Let's Plays and whatever platform you choose to put them on. My personal preference is YouTube, and if you didn't want them affecting your algorithm, maybe a second YT channel? But, that said. all I really want is to be able to watch your Let's Plays unedited and in full form. If that is in Twitch, fine, I'm going to watch you wherever you play games.

I also hope that you keep at least some longer Let's Plays on your channel, as those are, alongside SGS, the main reason why I want to support you. But if you prefer Twitch to YT as the main platform for LPs, why don't you take CohhCarnage as an example and upload the Twitch Vods in nice 20-30 minute chunks to your YT channel? This way you could get potentially some new viewers and also satisfy your YT followers. Just an idea, but hope you will not abandon Let's Plays altogether.

Martin Heim

I don't mean to sound rude, so let me say up front that I appreciate the spirit of making the video and asking for input. However, this is one of the things I've always been strongly in agreement with TB, may he rest in peace; I watch you and support you here because I like your content. I trust your judgement significantly more than the hivemind of Patreon supporters or your general audience. There is one request I'd like to make. If you decide to focus on Twitch more please set up some kind of VOD archive where we have the streams unedited. A fair number of streamers upload edited highlights (which fit the whole 15 minute or bust YouTube thing) and I don't mind it as I can just not watch, but I have no interest in that kind of content. However, unedited VODs are gold. You could create a second channel where the videos are unlisted even, if you don't want to dilute your brand or whatever; the specific implementation doesn't matter to me. The point is: time zones and my job make it effectively impossible for me to watch live, Twitch's own VOD system is garbage, and I only care for the raw, unabridged version. Currently this isn't too much of an issue, since Twitch is far from your main focus - but if this shifts, please, please make sure VODs are available. As for Patreon rewards - I don't want any. My reward is that you keep doing you and don't stop producing content I enjoy. If anything, I think you are already doing too much, though I understand that finding a good balance can probably be profitable overall. I'm giving you money to make sure you can make the content you want, with less worry over algorithms and copyright strikes - every cent that goes towards a t-shirt or whatever is wasted in my mind.

Arkennys

I love your Oddballs videos on youtube. I Like your Streaming on twitch, mostly for your reactions to story elements, wich was once a important part of things like your witcher, dragon age and skyrim.playthroughs. If i can get those on Twitch, that's ayokay. I love it when you play with others, again, something more common on twitch these days. As for the Gentlemens club: I'd love more Gentlemens club. hentai or otherwise. However... i'm not sure Games would be the right subject. Maybe movies, or televison? dunno. As long as the good editing stays, i think i will likely watch it no-matter what.

Pip van Hees

The duo playthroughs with Crendor and Doogs are some of my favorites, because the interaction between you makes them more than just playthroughs. The interaction between the players is what made me watch the Monster Prom playthrough. For single player videos, I prefer to see shorter games like Ace Combat, Sekiro, Resident Evil instead of neverending open world games or RPGs. Finally, as a huge coward the ONLY way I see horror games is Scary Games Squad. :)

Tom Terryn

couple ideas you can use or not. what if you did cox tease, and then every now and then did a vote for a game to finish that everyone enjoyed you playing? could maybe be a game length limit like no super long games. also, dont have the full concept fleshed out, but a show called "i wish i had jesse's girl" or something like that. maybe there are legal issues with that, but hopefully not. and it could be gentlemens hentai format where jesse is looking at some of the best jesse's girls in games like aloy. then personally i would just add that jesse and doogs playing puzzle or detective games is one of my favorite things ever. and i also miss the best of the worst of the weeks. just throwing that out there. thanks for all the great content jesse and internets krs-10. you folks are wonderful

Jesse what about Greenlight series? What happened to this? It had mid length, most of them where one-shoots and you could do them with different people. I really liked those, and plus you gave exposure to many cool hidden gems.

I will be missing the long series, mostly because I enjoy seeing you play games I don't have the time/pc to play and how have fun with the little details. That said, I do think the new format you are now considering to explore is a perfect balance of fun for you, content for the audience and will not saturate both. To be honest I started following you because of the Terraria series with TB, just because is the personalities that do it for me more than the game - even if I do avoid watching stuff from games i don't care about/don't know much of. I am a great believer of people experimenting in a joyful way so go for it. And yes, do keep SGS happening because it makes my day everytime!

It's a tough game man and you've been playing it longer than me. I'm here for your personality so as long as it feels like the soul of the channel is still present and not completely squashed, I'm in. My one thought on a GHC format for bad or crazy games is that let's players like cr1tikal have said that after playing a bunch of really bad games in a row, they got bored of doing the "bad game" thing as all the ones they played sucked in similar ways. Best of luck PS: GHC was incredible. I think there's tons of potential for that show if you play it smart

Michael Spear

Dear Jesse, since I’m an old fart (like you) and I don’t have the time anymore to play games myself, I love to watch your stuff. I also prefer YT above twitch because I can choose when to watch - stop a video and continue later and so on. Besides European time zone is not that compatible with your stream times. BUT I prefer when you play games you like or better said games which fit your game style and your passion. When you play a game like Sekiro – which is the new hot shit – it gives you more views on the first video, but watching you fail for 30 minutes is not enjoyable (and new viewers probably won’t stick with it because you are “not good” and the story doesn’t progress). You should play games with a story-focus, maybe stealth or even point and click, but something you can progress and preferable not open world. Therefore, you can keep somewhat calculate how many episodes a let’s play will have and it’s less likely to run it into the ground. I would like if you have one game let’s play always running (which you complete before starting the next) and I think it’s wise to complement that with your cox tease idea, so you can always provide up-to-date content for new games. The Gentlemen’s Club idea sounds fun too, but also like a LOT of work since you need to play a game a lot – maybe not complete it but do at least 50+ % of it - to do a good talk about it. I think – because you would do it with (older) weird games – the benefit is not that great. You said yourself Hentai Club was a lot of work and for it you “just needed to watch” 6 episodes of hentai and not play a game… To sum it up: don’t abandon lets play – just choose wisely what you play - do cox tease to be on the pulse of gaming industry and stick with the the stuff you talked about (SGC, Q&A,…) And in my opinion Gentlemen’s Game Club is a balance act between work/costs and use/revenue (but if you enjoy making it that much work is probably not that hurting)... All the best Patrick (loyal viewer since you started doing more than just WoW) PS.: Looking forward to all those finished Let’s Plays.

The thought of less let's plays scares me a bit, but things like SGS, Cox'n'Crendor in the morning, and the new Gentleman's hentai club have become some of my all time favorite content. So I really put all my faith in you on this one!

Zack Perrin

I also would love to see the behind the scene of sutch producitons.

I dont mind the gift, im suporting you bc you one of the few content creators I can relax afther hard day of work. What I would love you to do so mutch more with your interst for lore but also more traveling bc fanbased is global ;).

It all sounds great to me. If you're having fun it will be fun to watch.

Please proceed, liking the ideas!

I like the way the new direction sounds. I am also a huge fan of Fan Friday and bought multiple games after watching you play them. Some of my favorite content is you and Dodger just for the way you play off one another whether it be puzzle games or Life is Strange. You and Crendor’s stuff is amazing too. I really enjoyed you playing Tropico and would really like to see that turn into a bit longer series. The part that really speaks to me is your willingness to finish old content like We Happy Few and others. It is great to hear your perspective as you slog through some of these games and I know that different people are more invested in different series you have done. Still, it would be cool to see you finish this chapter as you transition to something new. Whatever you/the community decides I think will be great.

I myself noticed that I now watch less and less let's play and more streams. I really watch almost all other videos on the channel, but let's plays not so much anymore, except for Coop stuff maybe, when it becomes as you said more like a podcast. And I'd enjoy there being more of that stuff, but only if you have fun and its feasible for you. Thanks for all the great content, also: when's Skyrim gonna get completed?

Rafi

no one wants you to 'blow through' games. We like you playing normally ("and wrong" :P) When you play a game you enjoy playing, the videos you make for it is also enjoyable for the viewer. All the stuff you talk about in the video sounds interesting. Just dont totally abandon long games-series. Doing sort-of reviews / let's try or wht ever could work. Its still a void to be filled after 'wtf is..' etc.

Punkle Jones

I think it sound good, I would say a mix of long and short content is best for me at least. I do love catching streams (and their VoDs) when I can to get that full on unfiltered Cox-goodness, but equally I think the shorter edited stuff is really good as it can allow such greater things than just straight up let’s play. Either way I’m sure it will at least be entertaining.... especially seeing you try to complete all those unfinished play throughs :)

I will watch anything that you put out Jesse, but when you said you'll finish the unfinished games, ooo that got me excited. But if you want input on games, shorter ones that have the fun stories that you obviously get into. Oxenfree, Night in the Woods, Pony Island, are the three games that come to mind of games that were short, but had a great story that we all really enjoyed.

Perry Splettstoeszer

I'm going to be honest, I'm one of those people who have a ton of lets play videos to catch up on (but you have 3 browser tabs permanently reserved on my browser right now!). That being said I would be sad if lets plays dissapeared completely, but I'm not opposed to you worrying less about being super entertaining and instead doing the occasional game on twitch (personally I always find you entertaining no matter what!). -- I also would love to see the return of the Q and or A to the channel and will take as much multiplayer mayhem as you can make!!! (P.S. Hyper Jam and King of the Hat would both be awesome for it!) EDIT: Ultimately I just want you to do what you enjoy and not carry on doing things you don't.

Steven Burgess

I live in Australia your timezone makes Twitch pretty hard for me. I would like you to finnish your old games for Youtube. Have you thought of the idea of makeing say highlights of your streamed shows like RTGame does with his. Or Kiwo its short and funny.

FreeQuest

the Games club sounds like a very good idea :)

Ronnie

Isn't the *point* of patreon that the people who are still watching part 68 of a Let's Play series, are people invested enough to actually back you? Moving away from that format in order to chase viewers who only watch 17 minutes of a video? How do you monetise those people? Get enough of them and hope ad-revenue becomes viable again? You gotta do what's best for you, that's 100% the main thing, And sure the grass is always greener, but remember, sometimes that's only because it's actually AstroTurf over there.

itches

So this might just be me, but i kinda miss when you played scary games with Crendor, i like scary games squad, don't get me wrong, but i feel like... urgh i hate being bad with words, i guess i just prefered it when it was just you and crendor.

Dargonaxable

15 minutes of a game would be nice for checking if a game is fun for new games. Deep dives on a game's storytelling, like megaman's story one ep, metroid another, rpgs, with all the jessie realizations would be good as you play the opening of a game and 30-1 hour of it. A dual game format where you take 2 garbage games play for 10 minutes each riffing on the game silliness could be fun.

Hey team cox Been supporting jesse since game tycoon days. i'll be honest Sekrio ain't doing it for me. you get frustrated and seeing 30 minutes of a fight makes me skip it.Long format video where you're not enjoying the game doesn't make me enjoy the video as much. heres some spitball ideas that'll hopefully bring back some old viewers. History review with cox, ft._blank_ guest. with your extensive history of being a teacher i feel like you'll have a great knack for it. (even if its semi inaccurate) a play on comedy central of drunk history/education parody review . Even lore review would be great. old man cox Newspaper search, look for ridiculous stories in your local paper and read them. This weeks "cox person hall of fame" search.i know that's something for cox and crendor but what's crendor really going to do,stop you pfft man does even have a gallbladder? once upon a cox share your own little stories and ideas, background. keeping the tradition of tabletop games as TB once did. One off roleplays.i followed odd balls to ep 13 than fell off. if it gets enough views/or request make more. that christmas twitch story had me on the edge! More,Behind the scenes(office, game dev/pub,good game bts)it's not the videos that'll get our attention its your personality.(i guess vlogs?) Hell even interview your co-workers. yes to more co stars since you do your best with others as a great leader. 8 tentacle thumbs up to more hentai club. Fan interaction in games.play games with your dedicated fan base or more twitch/jack box. the youtube generation of lets plays is obviously leaning toward a younger demographic. So either you have to appeal to them which i don't fully support since they might not be that positive for you in the end.So might as well teach them something in a fun way! your brand is mainly smart, being aware and analysing story. something this new generation of viewers don't have the attention/appreciation for. I enjoy videos where you laugh your ass off it sounds genuine and real unlike a lot of youtubes today which is why i mainly follow and support your content to this day. Tl;DR Here's some different video ideas i would love to see that'll be fun for you and possibly bring back old viewers. I think your Long LPs are unappreciated in a world of short attention spanned viewers.I love when your having actual fun cause i'm having fun with you than. I love you and your content. Thanks for reading.....Kristen..

I think that if you want to reduce the length of your edited content, then please stream yourself playing these games as well, cause I love your streams. The GOG thing sounds like a great idea, will be interesting to see the pricing vs reward, but initially super keen for that. The gentlemen format is great and allows for so much flexability whilst still being super on brand for you i feel, maybe have like monthly themes or something like that? so we can break the videos into play list chunks? I dont know love you dude

I subbed to this like, yesterday. Honestly, the only input that I'd like to have is - if you stream in US friendly times like the evenings there or something, upload it to somewhere so that the rest of the world can watch it as well. Cause it hurts to have all of this content being broadcast at a time where it's physically impossible to watch cause it's like 3 am.

The gentleman's club format sounds like a great idea to me, also makes it possible for me to enjoy the result of you playing with the limited free time that is available. All your ideas sound good, and I think if you focus on what's fun for you to do, that translates well into the videos, that is why I love all the coop stuff you have done with all your friends. I think long form let's plays are probably well suited for twitch, maybe you could just upload them in bigger chunks to YouTube with just the first episode of the batch going to the subscription box, and the rest just being on your channel in a playlist (I have seen this done by day9 for his Friday day off streams and really like it, as it does not overrun the sub box put still notifies you of the availability). About the completion of promised games, do it if you want to, I don't know if I am in the minority for that, but I would rather have you spend your time with stuff you really want that does not drain you over these long hours left in some of these games. All in all, I say go ahead my dude, sounds awesome

Hi Jesse! I’ve been watching your channel for years. I’m a big fan of your Let’s Plays. I’m so busy with school and work that I never have time to play all these cool games. So instead I enjoy watching you play. I understand how YouTube has gotten a bit tricky, so I don’t mind watching VoDs on Twitch. Just make sure you leave them up. I also miss you playing games with Sinvicta. Everything else sounds great. I love Coxtease. Love you and Crendor together. Love Fan Fridays. But mainly, I’m happy when you’re happy. When you enjoy something it shows. Thank you for the many years of entertainment

I wish you all the best, Jesse. You really should have fun doing your videos. That said... it has a certain appeal to see you rage at times :-p As for the let's play videos: I couldn't give a damn if they're slow (both in terms of your looting obsession and in terms of production/release frequency): I love them. I don't wanna see what happens (other streamers would give me the content/cutscenes/complete story faster), I like to see YOU play it. Occasionally singing the elevator song. Or "riding on a train, but don't hold on" etc. :) Say - God of War might be a good game, but it was nice to follow _your_ journey. I'd watch new and different content, but just feel that you underestimate the (niche? This is a biased audience of course) appeal of you playing through games..

So I think all the ideas you present here are great and I'd happily watch them. I'd also love to watch you play some more games on twitch instead of lets plays and you can store your game plays there for people who still would like to watch your let's plays as well. One of the things I enjoy most in your channel is when you play games with other people because there is always a good vibe and shared responsibility probably to entertain which I'm sure helps . So any project that gets the wide variety of awesome people that I see in your channel together I'm in. The GOG rewards thing sounds very cool.

While I do like long LP sort of things, I have to admit that I only fully watch some of them. They are a big time commitment on both ends, after all. The editing for Gentleman's Hentai Club was incredible - thanks Mari! - so if you want to extend that to some other things I'd be all for that. Ace Combat games seem to be great for shorter LP stuff due to how they pack everything in. Good length missions, and the game isn't so long as to cause a lot of drop-off. I'd love to see AC Zero at the very least. All in all, though, I've been following you for quite a while, and I doubt that I'd stop due to a few changes to make things more viewable.

Arraxis

Never gonna say no to more coproductions! Also fully support you branching out and making whatever content you're enthused about, video games or no, because the videos you've made that I remember most clearly were either cooperative ones with your friends and/or ones that you were clearly super enjoying/passionate about. Re: solo content and the twitch/youtube divide: I definitely think Twitch makes sense for the games on the long/extremely long end of the spectrum, as well as games that just came out and are the current 'thing'. I understand that feeling of 'twitch is done with that in less than a week, and the youtube playthrough's only 1/4 done'. For shorter games or older games that you're playing because you're passionate about them, I think (as a viewer) I like the youtube experience of that- series like the recent Ace Combat 5 seem like a good fit for youtube. If I had to pick an arbitrary split on what I consider 'shorter' vs 'longer', I'd say series that end up going ~20 episodes or less fall into the short/mid-length series bucket for me, with anything beyond being long. That isn't to say I'd dislike short/mid-length stuff being played on twitch instead! I've just noticed that the sweet spot for the solo series I have the fondest memories of seems to be ones in the 10-20 episode range, and I'm more hesitant to suggest a change to that formula.

and yeah, more streaming content for games. I personally like the longform stuff I can have on in the background. I like your lets plays, but it is hard to maintain my interest on the current drip of content for a single game

I would enjoy a gentlemen's club on some just awful garbage. If you have ever seen Vinny from Vinesauce stream on sundays, something along those lines. I feel your sensibilities would mesh very well with the batshit stuff that can come out of that kind of content. Like maybe have community-made packs of games along a theme and you guys review the pack or something like that.

moderation in all things Jesse. Try balancing your live streaming schedule and YouTube uploading schedule. There are fans who desperately want each kind of content. Some people only want YouTube uploads and others prefer the live streaming chat while you play experience. And then people like me love both. I feel like if you live streamed long RPG's you might actually finish them, like skyrim and the Witcher! because without worrying about video editing you can just sit down and play the game for hours while people watch.

Terry Lee

I wouldn't mind Jesse playing any "Lets play" material on twitch but still uploading like 2hr vods onto youtube for those who don't have time for livestreams. That way Jesse can move onto more content that is separate from "Lets play" format. Try doing a more seasonal approach to different content, I think that works for variation and lets interest build up in a series. And its not too much of a bore on Jesse that way we keep switchin it up.

I thought it was great how you went over all the old Ace Combat stuff as you were starting to play the most recent one. Maybe you could do small 1-3 episode dives into your favorite stages/scenes from games. What made that part so great, how you thought about it then and now, that kind of stuff. You could go over it alone or invite someone else to talk it through with you who also loves it, Hentai Club style.

Here's my two cents: do what you want on YouTube. I'll honestly watch whatever you put on there, and I know that game play is moving to streaming. I would miss your playthroughs, though, as I love watching you grind (like with witchery, for instance). So as long as I could still see you casually play on a streaming service I'd be cool. To be honest it is hard when you're streaming during the day (West coast time) as I'm at work, but I get that you gotta do what you gotta do. But, seriously, I love all your content so I cant see being disappointed in you. I would love to see some filmed Chilluminati, though!! 😉

Carrie Webb

I'd say do what you can to have fun without exhausting yourself. I prefer the longer lets play style, but the occasional shorter isn't bad either. Finding a balance is probably not a bad idea, but you've entertained me since Cataclysm, even lately went back to the good ol' JC and TB Terraria madness <3 Nothing quite like that anymore.

Jesse, i've been watching you for years, you would have to try very hard to get rid of me, the gog thing is so cool! and honestly i thin k if your passionate about it it will be excellent, that being said... I remeber numerous times in the past where you said you would finish everything, and it didnt happen, with the youtube algorithm how it is, i think you should cut your losses and just finish your current stuff, ace combat 5 and life is strange, maybe sekiro, and move on to make this new content you want, i know its hard to disappoint fans, who have been asking for years, but i just dont think its viable. But i dont know, i like all your stuff so keep up the good work and follow your heart i support you no matter what

That was absolutely awesome Jesse. I'm super glad you're happy and want to see more of the content you talked about. It sounds like an exciting plan to try! Go for it.

Seems crazy but I've been watching for the better portion of a decade now. I think the changes you mentioned would be amazing. First off, I'd love to see you on Twitch more. I think transitioning your Let's Play series over there would be great, just be sure to save the vods for us bingers! And I've got to say The Gentleman's Hentai club is one of my absolute favorites. I was smiling and laughing so much my head started to hurt! Didn't even know that was possible. It's just such a natural progression of your content and style, can't believe I didn't see it coming. I would wholeheartedly support new formats on your Youtube channel.

I think you can expand The Gentleman's Hentai Club to also include eroge (erotic games) as well because there are actually legit good games that aren't shitty Steam junk like those hentai puzzles. Maybe MangaGamer, JAST USA, or FAKKU can hit you up for some sponsored content. As for general content, whatever you feel like doing I think most of us will support it.

iyArashi

Jesse, Boo, I love ya and i think this makes great business sense as well as putting forth the best content you can make. I would say just keep fanfriday and maybe anther weekly show going so we can keep enjoying the goofs and have the other shows mixed into the regimen. That might be a lot to ask but having a constant output will keep people checking in and get those subs to 1 mill baby!!!!! p.s. does this mean we get to see the end of witcher 3?!?!?!?!?!?!

I would love non-letsplay content. LOVE the let's plays. Wife and I binge it every night, Between you and super beard bros. But behind the scenes stuff. Well produced video content of you and office mates having discussions. Mini podcast style. Just more video of you and friends would be great. You all are too entertaining.

Austi-0-Ferocious

It has always been a lot of fun going through singleplayer games in your Let's Plays because you get invested in the lore and as a fellow lore nerd, I enjoy seeing how you interact with the worlds. So with that said, it doesn't have to be a constant churn to push series out if you're inspired to create other format for content. A gem of a series when a game inspires you to want to take us on a story journey is great, like how ace combat is going! Whereas some games that are real long, like open world games, I think it'll still be enjoyable to watch you play it for the goofs or new formats like the gentlemen's club instead of having to be obligated to do a series of beginning to end.

I pretty much love nearly everything you do and I've been around long enough to remember when Skyrim updates every few days was a thing so if I haven't grown tired of your content by now, it's probably never going to happen! Your channel has undergone many changes over the years, in no small part due to the fact that Youtube has changed a lot in that time and we patreons are more than happy to help you not worry about that headache so you can focus in the stuff we so love you for!

Mukalytic

I think everything you posed to us sounds great. Do whatever you're gonna have fun with, my guy. Although... I do have an important question. If you are going to go back and complete all those old series... does that include FFXIII? 😏

I realize that's probably not that helpful. Personally, I'm sad that the long-form let's plays are dying. I still go back and binge on your longer series because I love them so much. Heck, the Ace Combat series are my favorite ones in a long time, partly because it's a long-form series, and partly because it's something you truly love. So while I love the longer playthroughs, I'm sure that if you love what you're doing it will work just fine.

Elliott Randall

The new content ideas sound great. Do what makes you happy! 😊

When it comes to making cool merch maybe some sort of paetron coupon code that discounts what ever shirt or hat of the month is? That way all of the logistics of physically creating // shipping shirts and hats is handled by a third party. When it comes the the more serialized content, something that other channels do that could work is, to record an hour of two separate games and cut those into the 15 -20 minute chunks you where talking about and upload two of those instead of one big video of one game. Ive been around since the cata beta days and the most enjoyable content to watch is that content where your passion shines through. Since the youtube space has grown and changed since the cata beta days I think it is natural that your content grows, changes and, evolves. When it comes down to it, my wish is for you to follow your heart and make the kinds of things that you love because I know we will all love it to.

I mean... I'm not really LOOKING for anything in particular. If you want to finish up the older games, that's great! I'd love that. If you want to do new stuff, that's great! I'd love that. If you want to change formats... you get the idea. I'm just here so that you can keep doing what you've BEEN doing. Providing that sweet, sweet Coxtent.

Elliott Randall

Jesse, I love you man and I fully intend to keep supporting you on Patreon, but this is probably like the 10th time you've talked about going back to old Let's Plays and completing them and we all know it just never ends up happening. I honestly think you're better off just moving on from them because most other people probably have and we know how crazy and unpredictable the YouTuber/Twitch streamer life can get. I understand your point about wanting to reward people who have supported you especially through Patreon but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say people didn't become Patrons because they expected you to finish Witcher 3 or Dragon Age: Inquisition. They did because of what you've put out since you started this thing and the content has been excellent.

Jazz Jackrabbit

I would actually like to see you utilize twitch some more. Maybe like you said for some let's plays. I just don't want you to get burnt out. I really like your Ace Combat content. I'm not much a fan of Sekiro or Dark Souls type games. I get really interested when you put on your Sherlock hat on and theory craft what's going on in the story/games and etc. As for merch I'd rather you get stuff that's easier to inventory. I have enough shirts in my closet lol I also think that GoG idea sounds interesting. for your new show ideas. I want you to do what'll make you happy and produce content that's been swimming in your head for a long time or explore what ifs and etc. Basically get down with your creative self 👍🏼 Just an idea maybe do some real life shenanigans with friends if you're inclined. I don't know if that'll be easier or what. Like I said before I just don't want you to get burnt out. Sitting in front of a computer for 40+ hours a week can ware on you.

Christopher Cochico

I am happy for you to complete games on twitch if you want to complete games and there is demand for it, and just do your Coxteases and other fun stuff on YT. I don't have nearly enough time to watch complete series any more but love watching your little features and Fan Friday, that sort of stuff I get down with. Love supporting you as always, and will actually be upping my pledge to show how much you and the team mean to me! :D

ranger10700

Go for it Jesse. I loved the format for the hentai club and would love to see more stuff in that style. All the things you brought up in the video sound like great ideas for the way YouTube is at and heading.

I'm a long-time viewer who really enjoys your long-form Let's Plays, but I understand what the situation with YouTube is, and if they're no longer viable then you've gotta do what you've gotta do. You've probably already considered this, but personally I'd be fine with Twitch vods for LPs instead of content produced specifically for YouTube, maybe that could cut down on the work involved and make them more feasible? I think, as others are saying, content that you personally enjoy making would almost certainly be content that we'd all enjoy watching. So as far as the new ideas go, go for it! The Kingdom Two Crowns "podcast style" LP is great, it's my favorite series on the channel right now, so if that kind of content is easier for you to make then I'm all for more of that.

xtcrefugee

I think you should absolutely go for it, I do very much love the long slow release of like a 50 part game play series from you, it is always exciting to see the next episode no matter how much looting (that's sometimes the best bit) but it ha always been clear that videos that you yourself enjoy making more and having fun with more are in general more fun to watch too, Scary Game Squad is amazing, Gentlemens Hentai Club is fantastic, Life is Strange is brilliant and they are all you and your friends having a laugh. And it is so clear to me how much effort to make these games entertaining, never did I think i would be clambering for the next episode of Sekiro, or Dishonoured or even Bioshock Infinite but you make it happen almost every time. So yes go forth and have even more fun.

I have been watching you for years and years. I've always been one to watch your lets plays and I know you promised the pay off of finishing the games like Dragon Age. As the years have gone by I am less inclined to care. I enjoy watching you and GHC has been a treat I need to finish it and I'm making my way through it with joy. You have a job of an entertainer and I like the way you entertain. I don't want you to go full sell out and just do what everyone else does. You aren't moving that way so I'm good with the new content. I'm fine seeing you review stupid or cool games. I would say your review format would work great for not just bad games but some of the weird games you love as well. Anything off the wall. I won't speak on what types of rewards I would like since I didn't dedicate that much money to the patreon. I hope you have fun and enjoy yourself. I look forward to seeing more stuff in the future.

I'm definitely torn after seeing the Hentai Club, because y'all killed that and I would love to see that production value brought to something gaming-related. As much as I love your Let's Plays, I could see you doing something akin to the Game Grumps, where you just dip your toes in a game for a few episodes and then move on if it doesn't garner consistent views or you don't think it's a good fit for the channel. And to let other content take precedence over Let's Plays, without completely doing away with them.

Look, so long as you continue to put out content I'm pretty much in it for the long haul. The gentleman's hentai club was fantastic and I'd love to see where you can take that format in the future. As far as gameplay videos, I enjoy your content for a lot of your collaboration stuff, but I happily watch The entirety of almost every video you upload (with the exception of some of your roleplay videos) To be completely honest I really really love the stickers as rewards. While it would be fun to have some exclusive shirts or hats, I don't really need more clothes. Posters and stickers are much easier to store and use. As far as videos, I need multiplayer mahem and scary game squad, but I would love to see what your idea could become. I hope I have some useful thoughts, mostly just keep being entertaining and fun and I'll be there for it.

Supersecretslug

Hi Jesse.

I think Day9 TV's "Metadating" show was a really good format for me. 3 people, on camera, experiencing a game for the first time together. I don't need to watch you complete a 50-part series, I much prefer your shorter shows. I don't know if I don't have the time for it anymore, or if just tastes have changed due to the rise of twitch. Even recently, with your Sekiro show, I started watching the first episode, to hear "This isn't usually my kind of game, but the fans demand it." Comparing that to the Ace Combat games, where from the very first second you are so hyped and excited to talk about it, the difference is so clear. What I think I'm saying is, I want shorter shows or one-offs (in terms of games, not shows), where you get to bring your friends in to experience something new with you, or to introduce each other to things you love. Maybe RLM's Best of the Worst is a good model of show for this move. ... also give Kristen a raise

Dude, there are full game movies up in the first 24 hours of a game's premiere. You can't really compete with that. But i (and i guess a lot of us) watch your let's plays for your goofiness. So i hope they stay, on Twitch, on YT, wherever. I'd still love to have a longer version of it (besides the shorter), since that is really good "background" for lighter work. :) Just don't overextend yourself. On the other hand, this gentlemen's game review club thing sounds great too.

Honestly though, I really felt your fun and enthusiasm in GHC. I think you should go for it.

Manuel Müller

Fan Friday is the only one that I didn't hear you mention. That's one of my favorite ones, specially with guests, otherwise you do you Jesse. I watch your videos because you are entertaining, not because I like games.

Daniel Salas

Also if possible don't use "The Gentlemen's Club" format just for bad games, i think we have enough content focusing just on shite. Lots of love and keep up the good work!

Your collabs are the best! Be it SGS, SAF or LIS with Doogs, you ROCK at interacting wish others and playing your goofs off one another! Of course I'd love more of that! As long as it's not on Vimeo (which sucks and makes me feel like I'm back in 90's on my dial-up), I'm supporting whatever you come up with! With the Gentelmen's Gaming Club you could start with some hentai games to smoothly merge from hentai to gaming :)

If you will relegate let's play content to streaming, which imho is a great idea, what you could do for YT is either a condensed best bits version for each game, or just few short "Memorable moments" like 3/4 times a week.

With lets plays, I often watch the first few episodes and then if the game interests me, I tend to buy it myself and not really watch the lets play anymore to avoid too many spoilers.

I joined your Patreon specifically because of The Gentlemen’s Hentai Club so more content like that would be amazing. No offense Jesse but recently, I’ve been watching your solo videos pretty much out of obligation and, to me, it seems like you’ve been making them out of obligation. Don’t get me wrong, when you really like a game, like Ace Combat 5, it comes through and I really enjoy those videos. But I’ve stopped watching Sekiro because you don’t seem to be enjoying that as much (understandable since that game is like bashing your head against a brick wall).

Jesse, Thanks for being so open to feedback, and thanks so much for thinking about coming back to the old let's plays like Witcher 3 etc. Your idea for Coxtease is fantastic, genuinely: It'd be so much fun to see a sort of compilation of your best of/worst of moments as you play through something, because often enough part of what draws me to your playthroughs is your goofs, and the editing goofs which can come from that would be great! Watching you and a bunch of your friends just straight up roast games that deserve it, in the style of GHC? Totally down for that. You've got such great chemistry with... literally everyone who's ever been on your channel, that you could even revolve people in and out, have recurring guests etc. Perhaps even try to get some developers themselves on to discuss? And not just community managers, but coders, animators, etc? Sometimes it's great to hear the people who made the game talk about what made it fun/challenging/weird for them. But most importantly I think, do the stuff that you find fun, because genuinely, the best fun comes from watching you either call a game's story way in advance because you're super invested, or making great goofs because weird stuff is going down; It's great. All of which is a long-winded way of saying that yeah, to me, you don't need to make 80 part lets plays; I watch the channel for you, not the games!

Zeyd

Sounds interesting these plans. I think you do thrive on once off awesome content, more so than a series. I'd be keen for you to try it out and see how it goes for you, if it does accomplish what you want it to.

Season 2 when? 😋

Manuel Müller

I think this would be a great idea! I've sort of fallen off of let's plays in general as of late but something like this would definitely be a great way to get my daily dose of Cox back into my life! 😉 At the end of the day I'll still support no matter what, but I think Gentleman's Hentai Club was a great peek into some amazing kind of content that would work great on the channel!

The Hentai Reviewer presents The Gentleman's Gaming Club. I dig this.

Ciaran Hodges

You do you Cox. Working with others and having fun is always the best.
