We Want Your Feedback!

5 Minute News is a new show that's been going up on the main channel. Since it's in its early stages we wanted to get some feedback from you, the patron, who helps make all these things possible!

This is a secret version of today's episode that Mari made with added news scrolls etc. We wanted to know what you all think about putting these editions in to future episodes. So let us know what you think! Do you like the more tv newsy feel? Prefer the posted version? Something else? Give us whatever feedback you'd like in the comments here or shoot us a message.

Not a fan of the scroll. I wouldn't mind a date on the screen and possibly bullet points.

Ezmer2Dragon

I personally hate the scroll, but thats not particular to this video. but i like the segment title being on screen while jesse is talking about a topic, helps keeping up when he switches to a new one

Johannes B

Over all love this and wouldn’t mind you making things a bit longer if your interested in the subjects. Other than that enjoying the short news its stuff I am happy to hear about!

Abuus

The overlay is great and helps me keep my mind on topic. That said, it takes up too much space and feels more like a generic news overlay and not a Jesss Cox overlay. I would suggest taking out the scrolling text, making the overlay smaller, and redoing the design to fit more in your channel’s theme.

I like the overlay, but the scrolling text distracts from the content.

I could take it or leave it, but if you do decide to keep it I would prefer it to be a little smaller.

I was distracted by the scrolling. Would prefer a static overlay if there is one. Not a huge fan of the style of it in this instance. I like the show as a quick "off the cuff" news piece.

Matthew Macomber

I like the additions, but the scrolling should be faster.

Perry Splettstoeszer

I liked it! It was an excellent opportunity to add some zingers and mention some smaller headlines that didn't make it into your monologue.

LimeOfDoom

Love the show. Indifferent about the graphics, but am not a great fan of slowly scrolling text.

Into it thus far! I like the work that went into the ticker, and the design pieces, but it feels like too much? It should be enough to keep a headline for the active topic, and something--a logo or drawing--to keep it in line with your other stuff as another poster mentioned. The goof potential IS there, but it takes the focus off you and what you're saying. So, I guess less is more?

Loving these but I feel you’re going to keep the scroll making it smaller would be better. But overall love the feel and the news segments!

Like some people mentioned, I love the 5M(gaming)N (5MGN?) since it's like a bite size of what Co-Optinal was with Jesse's takes - which I always loved. As a not into all that's gaming all the time but still like to know what is happening and why sometimes twitter is exploding, I do appreciate it A LOT! I do love the informal approach of "I have shit to say so i'll sit down and say it", but IF it's gonna stay I understand a bit more of a polished look. And for that, * let me put my visual arts teacher/former designer cap * I have some suggestions: 1. The channel(s) have a very defined visual identity, even with the variety of shows, there's some cohesion that is into the edition and tone but also the type used, etc. I know that the edition here is mostly a test, but having this show also have elements of the rest would be VERY beneficial and while it can exist on it's own, communicate well inside the whole of the channel - if there's a new viewer dragged by these videos they wont be confused with looking out of place of the rest. So the real suggestions about this: 1. a) A less "TV news Channel" type like font and colors. It's not TV, and even if it's parody or borrowing ideas from it, it does clash a bit with the informal nature of it all. More soft, simple solid color banner like text in the bottom. Like with rounded corners to match Jesse's channel character, for example. 1.b) Even if it's just a text based logo for the show, same rules as above: softer roundish font, less tv news channel with breaking news and more... Jesse like? I dunno if it makes sense. 2. While keeping the theme of borrowing for news channel ideas, one thing I dislike for a couple of reasons (even if i enjoy the goof potential) is the running text. It distracts from what being said, it's like visual noise for me. And not only considering some people have the show as a audio only, some like me enjoy the casualness of it of getting some tea or coffee and watch it, and the running text does cause some sense of uneasiness or urgency? Maybe so many years of the urgent news or something like running on the bottom text of the TV my patents always have on? It does not match with the vibe I guess. Other than that, all my support to the possible new show and format, sorry for the very long comment and potential mistakes since english is not my mother tongue.

I am also part of the audio only crowd. When I watch it, this looks very polished but in my case it would be a wasted effort since I primarily listen to this format. As a quick suggestion, how about a weekly recap video whete you just put the daily videos into one long one. Many other news channels also do this format. For instance Seth Meyers.

I think some sort of overlay like this would be great to give a more unified look, especially if you want to continue doing the show. It also helps to better delineate various topics, though you'll lose the free-flowing, vloggy kinda feel. However, I find the scroll distracts from the actual content, even if it's just for fun. Overall, I really enjoy the show. I can stop obsessing over twitter as much but still get all those juicy gaming news.

First off, I love the show. I'm so happy it's happening. This is the closest to co-optional we have gotten since it ended, and I'm here for it. I've always loved Jesse's takes. As for the news style things, I don't like it, for two reasons. 1. If it's there, I feel compelled to watch it so I don't miss a joke. But this means I can't just put on the show and go make some tea or whatever. The raw format makes it work as audio only. 2. I'm not from the US and we don't have this type of news channels where I live. On top of that, I don't even own a television. This overlay instantly reminds me of Fox News or CNN, and I depside them and all similar content. It's a negative association for the show.

Arkennys

I really like it, the info scroll is a great way to get some short information out there or for a goof or two.

I enjoy the raw feel that the videos have currently, however the fun info scroll might be a bit more eye catching to draw in new viewers. Both ways are great.

Josh H.

I love it as is!

I like the way you have it no need to change.

a good point is made here. with MS ending the xb1 line that means more materials are available to make the series line of consoles.

Kevin Cason

would request the time tables set, so you can jump/link more easiely to one of the parts of the show and don't stick to hard to daily news since there are times when nothing comes and then you have issues or to much happenes in a short period of time ^^ the scroll is a nice effect but be carefull only the first "joke" could have been real from an EU viewpoint were we hear of all the crazy lawsuites from the US^^

Otoger

These have become part of my regular news intake!

Mukalytic

On the one hand I think it is not needed and I mostly listen to Jesse talk while I do something else, but on the other hand it looks very neat and could be a place for smaller news, that dont have enough meat to be a full segment or dont fit in the 5 min

Morrowcrow

I think it might be a neat thing to briefly have at the start of each topic that then fades out, rather than staying up the whole time? Could be a nice visual cue for finding a specific segment as well.

I like the news-y feel, but if it's easier to not put that in, I feel like it wouldn't be missed. I find it hard to read something and listen to a different thing being said at the same time.

I like the ticker but I think it's more so I remember what the topic is - it works for me but then doesn't jive with the Seinfeld gag (which I liked!). I think it could work if it was more Jesse-fied!

Hikkiko

Except that at least with Beanie Babies, you had a physical item you could own and hold. NFTs don't even have that.

Love the ticker, wouldn’t mind smaller. :D

carrotsauce

loving the show but i see it more of you sharing your opinions rather then an actual news show, i feel like the additions ruin the feel of the show

I prefer the original. It quickly becomes too clustered. But otherwise this is the best content you've made in a while. Love em

Lasse Henttonen

I am loving these videos.

Love 5MN, It's so good to have you do them. As for the scrolls, I think they're good, maybe speed them up a bit though!

I think it's fantastic, keep working on it cause it looks quick to make compared to other work you've done and ever changing. It's good, I like it, that's all

FBlack

Both are good, but I prefer without the news-y feel.

Don't need the scrolls. Doesn't add anything. In a world with so much bullshit, keeping anything simpler is a win. Less is more!

Eric S

I don't think the lower third adds much to the videos. The editing in the original is already quite good with the inserts to help visually explain the topic (e.g. what beanie baabies are for those that don't know). With the scrolling and changing text down the bottom I found that I would either ignore it in which case it doesn't add anything or shift my focus down there to read the text which makes me lose focus a little on what's being said and takes away from the other video.

Adam Bryzak (BakerStaunch)

I've never been any good at reading and listening at the same time, so I'll probably never read the scroll, but I also don't mind it being there. Which isn't exactly helpful feedback, but it's what I got.

I like it but feel it could be more subtle, I like that it shows the topic being discussed at the bottom, helps people know what’s being talked about, as well as not to confuse two topics together and easier to go search more info themselves knowing what it’s called or how it’s spelt. That being said, I prefer whatever feels less laboursome for you, whatever will make you enjoy getting videos out quickly and make you enjoy your job more, as the results will reflect that a lot in the video. I personally enjoy watching these more for your personality and thoughts than the news topics themselves, a lot of the topics I’m not fussed about as video games have become a smaller part of my life, but I can guarantee I’ll watch everyone of them for more Jesse in my life.

Arkaos

I really like the 5 Min news as it has been posted. I don't like the news scroll. It is hard to read at that slow speed and distracting. You have me for 5 min of news and I don't need news bites scrolling past because a 5 min news show is already a news bite.

Karen

Jesse News best News

CJ8manx2

Really enjoying the 5 min videos. It's just the right amount of content to hear Jesse talk about some of the stuff going on in the world without committing too much time to the discussion. I hope it provides a chance to look deeper into some of the topics too (as some comments might warrant another, longer video?). The scrolls are fun too! More room for jokes!

Absolutely love the scrolling news ticker. Keep that going. Absolutely hilarious + informative.

I do like the tv newsy feel. Though I do have some comments: - The scrolling text is way to slow in my oppinion, maybe speed it up and just make it repeat like they do on tv. Also, I know it is very satire news down there, but there should be something to indicate that it is not "real" news, since jesse is giving actual news, just so there is a seperation between them. Or alternative put real news down there. - My oppinion also, but I would not put more on screen, as it would junk up the screen. - if possible, then making the tv banners more in the... Jesse cox style? (if possible) Other then that, love the 5 minutes news, it is a nice direct format for news or what jesse finds to be news. Keep up the good work!

Kris Kristiansen

Massive, massive fan of 5MN! It's a great idea and I digging the Philip DeFranco vibes. I kind of love how "unedited" they feel without the overlay... that being said the added scrolls are really cool! The text scrolling feels too slow to me but that could be the adhd talking.

Lucky

I might be in the minority here, but I think I actually prefer the version as posted. This is well done but a bit too busy for my tastes.

xtcrefugee

I like the addition, but I think it could be smaller, as is, it's taking up a lot of space.

David Eisel

I like the new series! It's not likely to burn anyone out making it, it's informative, it's easy to understand, and the show can be more flexible in its output depending on if there's big news to cover or if it's a relatively slow news day. The edits and gags are great, too, and I think having the chyron/crawl jokes do make it more visually engaging. Good stuff! Keep it up, y'all!

Veggieleezy

Could it be possible to put in a side panel CNN/Fox News style? I bet other news channels do it too but they were the first 2 channels that came to mind.

Adam Hickling

Not a big gamer but I like the added scrolls and overall video flow
