Behind the scenes and fan art preview - Office Blog from Kendra
Added 2022-11-29 20:46:18 +0000 UTCHappy Tuesday all! This is an exclusive blog from my house today as I am unfortunately under the weather :( I don't know about you guys but I feel like I always get sick every winter. I did test negative for Covid so that's good at least! [EDITED 12/2/2022: I retested Thursday and I do actually have Covid so that sucks butts. This is my first time and it is just awful. Please be safe out there everyone!]
So what am I working on? Well, this month I took on the Fan Art for Patreon again. I had a hard time finding Artists that had available commission slots, and that would be able to do the project in our timeline. With the Holidays coming up it completely make sense. On that note, if any of you are artists and would like to be considered for future fan art projects, let me know in the comments. If you have a link to a portfolio or artist social account that's even better! We love to be able to commission fans.
So onto my art process. I wanted a strong concept, and I went through old Cox Videos for inspiration. Originally I wanted to do something fall related for November, but I had the idea of leaning into the winter since December is right around the corner! Then it was obvious. Some of my all time favorite Cox Videos are the "Yule" Cox n Crendor Shorts. Yes, I am talking about this nine year old video and it's successors. So I decided I wanted to use the yule lads, the yule log, and the yule cat. What's next?
Next is the doodle phase. You can see on this scratch piece of paper behind my Ipad that I scribbled out some ideas. Usually I would do different thumbnails to try out different compositions, but I was pretty happy with the sketch I made on Procreate.

The next step is figuring out a color pallet. This can be one of the hardest parts of drawing for me. I prefer mixing colors with traditional media, and I sometimes have hard time just picking colors from a color wheel. So this step takes a long time for me. That being said it's also very fun! I like to sometimes do pallets I would have never thought of just to see what it would look like.

Today I am working on the final line art stages, and hopefully will get to coloring as well, but I may be down to the wire tomorrow. I'm excited to see how it all comes together, and to share it with all of you!
Here is a close up preview of Jesse, Crendor and their Yule Log.

Also it wouldn't be a blog without some behind the scenes photos from the office! Here is Alex and Alejandro setting up for more Multiplayer Mayhem filming.

I hope everyone has a great week!

Hey! My wife is an artist, here is their portfolio site: https://www.minatheangel.com/ They actually did a piece previously before! https://www.patreon.com/posts/commissioned-fan-49407225 We are both big fans, so I'm sure they'd be happy to make another piece

2022-11-30 13:01:16 +0000 UTCThat small yule dude on the frame is giving me life. A sucker for details! Btw, I do make art and can be available for some Art Coxmissions if my style is of liking to anyone on the team (https://www.instagram.com/weird_sal/) . It would be an honor! My tumblr is now abandoned for many years but this is the best fanart I ever did of Jesse, so not sure if I could ever top that: https://weirdsal.tumblr.com/post/110841928177/adventures-with-chlorophyll-this-is-what-happens#notes
2022-11-29 21:52:05 +0000 UTCWow that video came out 9 years ago?! I remember when it first came out and listening to the podcast it came from before that.
