Yep! Agree, the first half is awesome... that jump at the end is silly.. it would have been better if his moral compass and his character grew, it feels like the seeds of that were in there but never really shown to full effect. M.Doug is great thought love him in Falling Down!

Although, with the first one I saw, you do see him as a kid first, so you can sort of sympathise with him and just chalk it up to his upbringing. And what is it with pens exploding? I had fountain pens for a time in primary school, a bunch of biros and they never popped on me.
