How far will he manage to go?

BARRY LYNDON (1975) MOVIE REACTION!

3:05:50 I fucking knew Lyndon was gonna shoot to the side. Either because what's the point in killing this little twerp. Or because he knew his wife couldn't bare to lose another kid, now that he knows how it feels.

Joe Thornhill

The duel scene 3 hrs in King Boomer is what it feels like watching a England penalty shootout at tournaments .. 😆

Dave L

1:29:29 Christ, I was wondering about subtitles once he met that Dutch woman, lol.

Joe Thornhill

Mate - there no fuckin WAY you are doing a review on Caligula!!!. hahahaha

Craig McCulloch

enjoying this KB few things, just wondered if you had seen/ liked the Patriot around this sort of stuff, I know its not to be taken too seriously in a sense of the Hollywood version of events, but it has some great actors and all the similar pomp to this, Jason Isaac's is superb as a evil red coat, also I think there was a series just gonna google live typing 😁called Turn Washington Spies, with Jamie Bell which was good from what I can recall set in America just prior to and during the American Revolutionary War. I am sure this will have the Sharpe fans speaking up too, that was never really introduced to me when I was growing up which I may dip in to at some point

Dave L

Beautifully beautifully shot. Also it follows my Golden Rule of Cinema, if it's got Hardy Kruger in it, it's worth watching. It does meander a bit in the second half, but it's so beautiful I just enjoy the ride. Like being in a boat and letting the river carry you at it's own pace. Surely "Sharpe" on the horizon if you want to learn more about 18th and 19th century warfare? :-D

Dryfesands

Ooh, that's the opening song? Was it made for this film or a piece already. What I didn't realise is that the Blackadder goes forth theme starts with an actual marching tune and blends into the theme.

Joe Thornhill

I think it's a very imperfect movie, but at the same time some things are sublime, camera work you mentioned, but also the score, including Chieftains music etc.

John McCormack

Same i like the first half better. Anytime this movie comes up i also think of The Duellists which I think is a much better movie. (Ridley Scott).

John McCormack

Yes KB! This was first period piece I ever watched. I remember it taking time to persuade myself to go for it and boy was it worth it! This is such a masterpiece. No idea if you even enjoyed it yet. Will find out when I get home in a bit!

Lester Sands

Shout out to the brilliant soundtrack & narration. Too. Such richness to the language used.

Luke Barton

How about reacting to Guy Ritchie's The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare?

Jason Bonner

The duel scenes remind me of 'The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp'. ..One of my favourite films.

Martyn Dawson

Also consider watching “Ran” (1985) by Kurosawa. An epic retelling of Shakespeare’s King Lear set during the warring states period of Japan. It’s beauty and battle sequences are breathtaking.

Luke Barton

Check out Dr. Strangelove & Lolita for more Kubrick.

Luke Barton

For me it’s Kubrick’s absolute masterpiece and without a doubt, one of the most beautifully shot films ever made.

Luke Barton

Sorry, Patrick Magee was Irish.

Colin R

Kubrick was very loyal to his little repertory of English stage actors, they appeared in almost every film that he made. Philip Stone, Patrick Magee, Leonard Rossiter and Steven Berkoff are instantly recognisable.

Colin R

Sounds promising

Dave L

Personally, I think this is Kubrick's crowning achievement, and one of the greatest films ever made.

Henry Graham

Even by my standards this is a left field choice! 😂 not a criticism or anything haha just random, literally never heard of it! Shall be a first for me too!
