PROLOGUE

Naruto Uzumaki landed hard, the impact sending up a cloud of dust and debris. He groaned, his body aching as he pushed himself to his feet. The last thing he remembered was the explosion—a massive surge of chakra colliding with an unknown force. One moment, he had been sparring with Sasuke near the Valley of the End, the next, he was... here.

Wherever here was.

Naruto rubbed the back of his head, blinking at his surroundings. The area was a stark contrast to the lush forests of the Elemental Nations. Buildings rose high, their facades cracked and worn, many covered in graffiti. The streets were eerily empty, littered with trash and broken glass. A strange tang lingered in the air—a mix of saltwater and something acrid, metallic.

“What the hell?” Naruto muttered, scratching his head. “Did Kakashi-sensei teleport me as some kind of training exercise? This doesn’t look like anywhere I’ve been before.”

Naruto took a deep breath, calming his racing thoughts. As much as he wanted to rush off and explore, he knew better. This wasn’t home, and there was no telling what kind of danger might be lurking. He formed a familiar hand seal, his fingers moving with practiced precision.

“Shadow Clone Jutsu!”

In a puff of smoke, three identical clones appeared beside him.

“Alright, guys,” he said, pointing down the different streets. “Scout the area and report back if you find anything weird. Try not to get into any fights if you can help it.”

The clones nodded and dispersed, each taking a different direction. Naruto turned his attention to the nearest building, scaling the wall with ease using chakra to stick to its surface. From the rooftop, he could see the city stretching out before him, a sprawling network of buildings, alleys, and streets. In the distance, he spotted a massive bay, the water reflecting the gray sky above. It was a far cry from the landscapes he was used to.

“This place feels... off,” he murmured to himself. “Better find out more before I do anything stupid.”

He closed his eyes and brought his hands together in another seal. “Sage Mode.” The orange pigmentation appeared around his eyes as he tapped into the natural energy around him. The world seemed to sharpen, every sound and movement within the city amplified. He could feel the presence of countless people, some radiating intense emotions—fear, anger, despair.

One presence nearby stood out, its fear and panic palpable. It was accompanied by several others, their intent far more sinister. Naruto’s eyes snapped open, body already up and feet moving.

Whatever this place was, someone needed help, and he wasn’t about to stand around doing nothing.

. . . . .

The alley was narrow, flanked by towering brick walls. A group of figures in red and green were cornering a man in his late thirties. He was dressed in a tattered jacket, clutching a bag of groceries as he backed away, fear etched on his face.

“Hand over the bag, old man,” one of the thugs sneered, brandishing a knife. “Don’t make this harder than it needs to be.”

“Please, I just want to go home,” the man pleaded, his voice trembling.

Naruto didn’t wait for the thugs to make their move. With a flick of his wrist, he threw a kunai, embedding it into the wall just inches from the thug’s hand. Then, he leapt down from the rooftop, landing silently behind them.

“Oi, leave him alone,” he shouted, crossing his arms and glaring at the group. “Five against one? Seriously? That’s pretty low, even for losers like you.”

The thugs spun around, startled. One of them recovered quickly, sneering. “Who the hell are you supposed to be? Some kind of cosplayer?”

Naruto grinned, cracking his knuckles and getting into a stance. “I’m the guy who’s gonna teach you a lesson!”

. . . . .

The fight didn’t last long. The thugs quickly learned that their knives and bats were no match for Naruto’s speed and taijutsu. Within minutes, they were lying in a groaning heap, and the man was staring at Naruto like he had just fallen out of the sky.

Which, to be fair, wasn’t entirely wrong.

“You okay?” Naruto asked, turning to him with a grin.

The man nodded shakily, clutching his bag tighter. “Y-yeah. Thank you. I don’t know how to repay you.”

Naruto waved it off. “Don’t worry about it. Just glad you’re safe. What’s your name?”

“James,” the man replied. “And you? Where did you come from?”

“Naruto Uzumaki,” Naruto said proudly. “Future Hokage and hero of the Hidden Leaf Village!” He paused, his grin faltering slightly. “Uh, though I’m kinda lost right now. Mind telling me where I am?”

James frowned, his confusion evident. “You’re in Brockton Bay,” he said cautiously. “You… really don’t know where that is?”

Naruto shook his head. “Nope. Is it near the Land of Fire?”

“Land of…” James trailed off, looking at him like he was speaking a foreign language. “Okay, you’re either crazy or telling the truth. Either way, you should get off the streets. This city isn’t safe, especially for someone like you.”

Naruto’s grin returned. “Don’t worry about me, James. I can handle myself. But thanks for the heads-up.”

. . . . .

As Naruto made his way through the labyrinthine streets, he recalled the information his clones had gathered before dispelling them. From the hushed fear-filled conversations about “the Empire” and “ABB” to the way civilians avoided certain areas—it was enough to tell him that this place operated on rules far different from what he was used to. People with strange powers were everywhere, and the city itself was a hub of crime and conflict.

It was clear that it needed someone to help set things right.

And Naruto Uzumaki was more than ready to lend a hand.
