1st and 2nd place go to nationals because Tokyo is a huge prefecture. 3rd place is also going to nationals because the nationals are being held at Tokyo so it's a "venue sponsor representative". Therefore Bokuto's team and another team called Itachiyama are in by default since they both won their semi-finals match. The third place match is being held right now between Nekoma and Nohebi.

2021-10-03 18:18:53 +0000 UTCI'm glad you two are reacting to these OVAs! Also at the end of season 3 it wasn't confirmed that Nekoma qualified to Nationals. They said that Nekoma and Fukurodani (Bokuto's team) both made it to the final four in their prefecture, which we are seeing right now. Since Tokyo's prefecture is so big, two teams get to qualify for nationals which are the two finalist. Fukurodani beat Nekoma is the semi finals and get to play in the finals. That means they qualified for nationals. Tokyo is also hosting nationals so they get to send an extra team which will be who ever wins 3rd place. Nekoma is currently playing for 3rd place.
