Almost all seasonal anime, are done in segments called "cours" Cours are usually 12-14 episodes, and they last 3 months, to coincide with the seasons of the year. Shows like My Hero usually do a two cour season, so their seasons are 25ish episodes. But a lot of shows only get picked up for a single cour. It just so happens that SpyXFamily is going to do a split cour, so they'll have 12 episodes now, take a break, and then release the next 12 episodes, to make the entire season. If you have extra time, you don't have to react to it, but there's a show called Shirobako on Crunchyroll. It's an anime about making anime, and they go through the logistics from the producers all the way down to 3rd party animators. It's probably a little more lighthearted than the industry actually is, but I've read that for the most part, it's pretty accurate.
