Btw a fun fact that I found: this was based on a novel, same premise but different story. And the MC is Makoto's aunt instead.

I agree the ambiguity leaves you think about it longer, it also makes their ending bittersweet. I was hoping they'd show Chiaki looking at the painting in the future though ;-;
