True original content in tv/anime series are very very rare, nearly everything is based in history/characters/science etc like alchemy/mechs/magic and stuff, the catch is how good/enjoyable you can make with your own twist as author. But definitely a saw a lot more rare/original content in anime than tv series/shows.
