Yeah, Youpi evolving as a person is not something you expect when you watch this for the first time.
But the fact that battles aren't only physical but also mental (Knov being taken out of the fight before the attack even begins, Ikalgo not being able to push the trigger when it would be the logically best solution, Youpi deciding to let our guys life, even though it doesn't really make logical sense etc ) is exactly what HxH distinguishes from many other series 🙂!
But I can totally understand how one want's to get to the "juicy" fights, especially on the first watch through🤔🙃

I'd say Youpi has developed a personal code of honor. Doesn't make him a good guy, but not straight out evil. As I've said I've seen this whole series multiple times and one thing this arc does extremely well is character growth. You gain so much insight to many characters where you can sympathize with the villains as they aren't purely evil they see their actions as justified, and as it goes on you can relate to how you would feel if in the same situation. I'd say more but don't want to spoil anything.

The fight wasn't pointless cuz they still bought the time to separate King from the Royal Guard but i agree that the emotional crisis that happened at the end was quite weird.

Togashi is all about build up. I agree that Gon and the chairman are ones everyone wants to see but no point staying on them too much since one has to wait an hour and the other was traveling a far distance.
