I think the event that caused is supposed to be like George Romero's zombie movies, there's no real explanation given for what happened, but it may be revealed in the manga near the ending, but I'm thinking it's just supposed to be a weird random event.

True 🤣 What I read said that each seat pds are custom made so the astronauts fit perfectly, so that they don't have any wiggle room. Nontheless, it was a life or death situation so they could have tried it perhaps!!

They could have at least tried to get out of their seats😅 Because hanging upside down for to long can actually be really risky, because blood will start to pool in your head🤔

I was assuming that they couldn't get out of the Soyous because of water pressure or something. They said that they've landed upside down so there may be a correct direction that the ship must land, for them to move out. Also, apparently in real life, because of the severe gravity pressure and loss of the sense of balance, that happens after you spend a certain amount of time in space, astronauts can't stand by themselves, so we're seeing a tremendous amount of effort there in Byakuya's rescue.

Rewatching this series with you guys, I halfway remembered this was coming and started tearing up at the beginning of the episode and was a little sad throughout. It's bittersweet lol
