A bit of missing context for why Subaru goes nuts after the rabbits. Surprisingly it's not just because it's horrific. The original material clarifies that the rabbit attack was so excruciatingly painful, that his nerves were still kind of echoing when he restarted. He was still hurting everywhere. Since that never happened with anything before, naturally he started freaking the hell out. Terrified that might just be his normal now. And he started bashing his head on the floor because he hoped that fresher pain would help distract him from everything else. It's pretty nuts.
