Because I didn't expect Gon to have any way of fighting Pitou directly (since the show has always been quite consistent in it's power scaling and Pitou simply would be completely out of Gon's league at this point) and expected the show to find a way of him getting away without directly fighting her. But him basically sacrificing all his future advancement to receive the power to fight Pitou head on at this point in time is just such a cool concept and took me completely by surprise!!

They have many direct comparisons in many ways, such as Meruem turning into a brighter character from a plain villain. Gon, on the other hand, has fallen to the dark side since he got paranoid about revenge. Many viewers get lost in this long arc but the entire story arc is followed by these two charactersโ journey.
