As someone who enjoyed NGE, these last two episodes were extremely boring, abstract, and hard to get through (though ep 26 had tiny memorable moments like the "congratulations" and alternate universe Rei running with toast lol). I think you'll have that in common with even the greatest fans. I've been waiting to comment this because I didn't want to spoil your experience, but maybe I should have directly expressed it earlier (others and I hinted at this in early episodes' comments though).
End of Evangelion is the true end (hence why it's called End of Eva). I wouldn't suggest waiting too long to watch it because I think it will be even less impactful and more confusing if you wait and forget things. You'll definitely enjoy it more than the last 2 episodes (by a lot). And all the previous episodes (but by how much for them, I'm not sure). Some of the most iconic, memorable, and meme-able moments happen in it (for the Eva series and for anime and pop culture in general in my opinion).

Shame this beat out Yu Yu. Y’all would’ve liked that 90s anime way more especially with it having arguably the best English dub of all time and it being one of the best Shonen.

I never was fan of Evangelion, but this series if we talking about TV alone without movies, is not really that good, its nice to watch one time as a classic but that's it without movies, and the ending... i think i prefer Promised Neverland S2 ending over this.

Saw that people already recomended The End of Evangelion and seeing you talking about them being so cryptic, I think you would enjoy the movie ending more than the show ending. Also the entertainment factor is way greater in the movie but the show is for many people a very peronal experience. And thanks for being honest with the show :D

Episodes 25 and 26 make sense if you watch The End of Evangelion.
