Urgent/Important Info! (PLEASE READ)
Added 2020-08-02 01:04:36 +0000 UTCIt has come to our attention that Patreon has recently lost a potentially major lawsuit. We hope nothing comes of this, but it could end up being SEVERELY detrimental to the Patreon platform. As a precautionary measure, we have just created a SubscribeStar which is very similar to Patreon. From now on, we will be uploading our exclusive content to both sites. To clarify, both sites will have the exact same tiers with identical content, just on a different website. Like we said earlier, we hope nothing happens to Patreon, but if any thing does then we will already be over on SubscribeStar and we will make the switch. We currently do not have any content over there right now, but over the next week or so we will be uploading our backlog of Patreon content over there, it will probably take some time to do this.
What does this mean for our Patrons?
Like we said earlier, we are only doing this as an extreme precautionary measure as this is our primary source of income. We really do hope Patreon continues as a site, but it is always good to be prepared. Remember, this will not change anything here on Patreon and we will continue posting like normal, but if the site were ever to discontinue, you all will know where to find us, and all of the content will be there as well. We just wanted to let you guys know now since this information has just come to light and we will keep you updated with our progress on SubscribeStar.
Thank you all so much for your continued support!

Adding to what Sorin posted, there were other creators and their followers that are in similar circumstances that haven't filed yet but are in the process of doing so. Those creators had thousands of followers and if their cases go to arbitration it will cost Patreon big time.

2020-08-02 13:59:15 +0000 UTCJust going to repost this to clear up any misinformation going around. "What happened is a creator was banned and 72 of his followers filed arbitration cases. Patreon tried to get an injunction against them in CA court under a clause that forbids class actions. The judge only issued a tentative ruling that denied Patreon's motion for an injunction. If Patreon ultimately has to arbitrate those cases, they could have to pay up to $10,000 per case, or $720,000."

2020-08-02 09:09:32 +0000 UTCFrom what I’ve read, the rumors of Patreon losing a lawsuit are false and reactionary. At worst, they might owe money but nowhere near millions. And there hasn’t been a ruling yet.

I may not agree with what you say, but I will fight till death for your right to say it. Futurama taught me that, season 5 episode 4 titled freedom day!
