First time I saw this epi I didn't like that Muscular had been the murderer of Kota's parents, or that Deku hadn't tried harder to escape with Kota safely instead of fighting. It felt like very on the nose writing, but Deku literally defeating the person who started Kota' hatred for the sacrifices hero's make is symbolic. You could write it to be less contrived, but if you look at the situation from Kota' perspective through an illustrative lens and less literally from a third person' perspective, it makes the fight more emotional and personal for the child. If the allegory goes over the audience' heads, this plot point helps shove the significance of Deku defeating Muscular FOR Kota. In the end, if Deku had ran to safety, or if Muscular had not been Kota' parent's killer, then Deku would be legitimately less significant to changing Kota' attitude. It is bc Deku beat up his parent' killer, meddling where he didn't have to for people he doesn't know, that makes him Kota' hero. So now I really like it lol and I am glad it was written this way. Even if it's implausible, it makes Kota' development stronger.

2020-08-31 06:52:16 +0000 UTCThis is a great episode. However, if I'm being honest, I find it a bit TOO much of a coincidence that Kota just HAPPENED to meet the guy who killed his parents. And on top of that, I just don't think it was necessary - I think it would have worked just as well if Muscular was just some random villain to Kota. That's a minor complaint overall though. Still an amazing episode!
