Fun fact - The author of the manga specifically told the animators to have Nazi Mario (as I like to call him) look directly at the camera when he gives that speech at the end, as if he's talking to us. Just another example of why he's so brilliant.

Episode 20 is too much to process in one sitting. After waiting for answers for so long, you get so much dumped at once. Man, those were great episodes, 16, 17, 18, 20 are mindblowing. Attack on titan was always captivating, but these episodes are what established it as a top quality series, especially when you look back and think how much of the earlier seasons were consistent with the big picture we just got. And there's even 2 more episodes left in the season, can't wait. Plus season 4 is just around the corner. Great reaction, guys, I love seeing how genuinely invested you are in the show! :)

Hey I'm an anime only watcher here so I don't know everything. Here's somethings you guys should know up to this point to help clear things up. I think the King inside the Walls wanted to isolate from the world because they were losing the Great Titan War. Rewatch episode 20 to hear this again. During the Great Titan War about 100 years ago from the present day (I think), 7 of the 9 titans defected from Eldian to Marley. So when the king realized that his people were going to be wiped out, he chose to not fight. He chose to trap his people by changing the memories of them, and to be afraid of the titans. And also when the King fled inside his walls, he changed the royals name from Fritz to Riess, and put a puppet on the throne. The Riess family was the real royal family that ruled in the shadows, and they did this to protect the Founding Titan's power. Dina Fritz was the last of the royal bloodline still on the mainland, until her son Zeke was born. It looks like the Marlian's don't know of Zeke's royal blood though. Remember: They need someone with royal blood to use the founding titan's power. Also something I thought was note worthy is that the Marlians believe when the Eldians were in power that they oppressed everyone else. But Grisha believes that they didn't oppress anyone but helped everyone else. Both sides believe they are the good guys without having any real proof on what actually happened. I think what actually happened is somewhere in the middle. Also something cool is that all those people changed into titans in episode 20 of season 3, many of them make an appearance in season 1. Like that one with the beard is the one that ends up eating Eren.

Great reactions, guys! Just for clarification purposes: After the Great Titan War, Eldia lost against Marley after the latter obtained seven of the nine titans. So the 145th king fled to the island of Paradis along with many of his people. However, some Eldians were left on the continent, including Dina Fritz, who was of royal blood. I believe Reiss was just the name they used to hide the identity of the royal bloodline inside of the walls. Most of the remaining Eldians pledge their loyalty to Marley, but some of them wanted to restore the old Eldia (restorationists). Our Ymir was probably named that way after the OG, she doesn't have any relation to the king's blood. The nine titans are Eren (Grisha's titan and founding titan), Annie (female titan), Reiner (armored titan), Armin/Bert (colossal titan), Zeke (beast titan), the quadruped titan, Ymir's titan, and one more we haven't seen.
