This is a “Filoni special” - seems like filler bc it doesn’t advance the main plot, but delves into side goals such as exploring Zeb’s character. He thought he was a failure as guard and the final survivor of his people; finding other survivors only reminds him of his failure, but eventually he regains faith. Also, as you recall, Filoni is very interested in the spiritual side of The a force; he doesn’t just see it as a mechanism for cool fights; he fully embraces the explanation of Obiwon and Yoda of the force being an energy field created by ALL LIVING THINGS that binds the galaxy together. In this way, Filoni is a Strict Constructionist. Next episode will hammer this home: Filoni believes that truly, the force flow through the tree, the rock...all things. Also: nothing is filler. Filoni don’t forget.
