There's an OVA special about this but it's quite hard to find. **It was sent before and he was only able to show it to the team in this episode (**This is only my speculation, considering the timelines). Starting episode 4, all teams involved are training for Spring Nationals which implies Nekoma lost in the preliminaries of Inter-High.
