Yep. Sam Witwer(the voice actor of maul) did a very good breakdown of the fight and all it's implication on some podcast a while back.

Filoni takes a one-note villain from Phantom Menance, gradually builds to his revival, gives Maul some absolutely jay dropping moments, and now, the cycle is wound to its end. Just a masterpiece There’s YouTube videos of Dave talking about this that I highly encourage you to seek out. This was one of THOSE episodes. With twilight of the apprentice and trials of the darksaber that make Rebels MUST WATCH. Obvioulsky this episode was done years ago before D+ , when Kenobi live action was just a dream. I wonder if Filoni would have done this episode if he knew the Kenobi series was on deck. I hope it’s not retconned, but rather simply referenced. A flashback would be sick

2021-07-24 01:44:58 +0000 UTCat the start, Obi adopts his usual fighting style and then changed to Qui Gon's, specifically the style he used when Maul killed him. Maul, thinking he knows best, attacks in exactly the same way as he did when he beat Qui Gon but Obi knew what to expect cos he knew Maul wouldn't think it through properly, thus he beats him easily. Obi Wan has grown and moved on whereas Maul is stuck in his rage and can't move on. is pretty much how Dave Filoni explained it once.
