Yeah, that was the one moment that the anime didn't handle very well. It mislead a lot of people.

2021-08-13 21:21:12 +0000 UTCJust so it's actually said aloud: Grumman is not planning on betraying anyone. Miles was merely assuming that Grumman planned to because of Miles' own prejudices. The anime does a bad job of conveying that we are hearing Miles' thoughts and not Grumman's.
