2025-01-15 14:23:23 +0000 UTCIt is also parodying "The Dead Zone" by Stephen King, made into a Christopher Walken film and later a TV series adaptation, where the protagonist Johnny Smith suffers an accident as an adult, goes into a coma for four years and wakes up with awakened psychic abilities, though he had shown lesser abilities since an earlier childhood accident, pretty sure both accidents were in the snow somehow. Of course, book story is better.

2025-01-15 02:16:41 +0000 UTCThis episode is a parody of the film "Manhunter" (1986), which was remade in 2002 as "Red Dragon". It's actually the first story in the "Silence of the Lambs" series. That being said, I've always admired South Park for how you don't need to know what's being parodied in order to understand the jokes and enjoy the story. I certainly didn't understand most of these references when I was watching as a child.
