On whether the German people and common soldiers knew about the holocaust, this has been the subject of a lot of debate ever since the war ended. Here are some facts to take into consideration, come to whatever conclusions you will. “Mein Kampf”, Hitler’s biographical manifesto, was published in 1925 and by the time of this episode, it had been selling in Germany for 20 years. In it, he plainly said in it what he planned to do concerning the Jews of Europe, as well as taking land from the Russians. In the German elections of 1932, the Nazis took power by winning 37.3%, with the other 63.3% being split among many other parties. That’s 13 years before this episode. The Nuremberg Laws were passed in 1935, making sex and marriage between Germans/Aryans and Jews illegal, banning any German woman under 45 from working for a Jewish household, and declaring that only those of German blood and their relatives could be citizens. Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass, took place in November of 1938, when Jewish-owned stores, synagogues, and other buildings were attacked and smashed by the Nazis. Point being, even though most Germans would not and could not have known how the camps were run, by 1945 most Germans could not claim ignorance of the fact that so many Jews and other minorities had disappeared from daily life, the worldview of the Nazis, the laws they passed, and the way their government acted towards anyone who wasn’t of “pure” German blood.

2023-05-06 17:39:56 +0000 UTC"Look at you, you're riding horses!" The line about General Motors and Ford is referring to how America's industrial production far outpaced Germany's. Yes, Germany had cars and tanks, but we could outproduce them, so we didn't have to take horses to war.

It is really good and definitely worth watching. It is available on HBO or You Tube it is called "We Stand Alone Together", the men of Easy Company.
