PSA - Sales Tax changes effective July 1st
Added 2020-05-21 09:36:16 +0000 UTCHi everyone,
This is a quick heads up for any patron currently based in the US. As of July 1st, Patreon will be charging sales tax on certain pledges, not just on my stuff, but any creator you're currently subscribed to. What pledges are charged sales tax are dependent on the content/benefits each tier offers.
Whether or not you will be charged sales tax, what you're charged for and how much you're charged will depend on what state you live in. In the US, sales tax varies from 4% to 11% depending on state, so on a $5 pledge you could be looking at an extra 20-55 cents a month.
If you will be impacted by this, then Patreon will be e-mailing you soon to let you know.
In the meantime, I'm working in the background to confirm what is and isn't taxable on the pledge tiers to try and save you guys as much money as I can!
Any Patron based in the EU or countries where you already pay tax on your pledges will not be impacted by this change.
If you have questions, you should be able to find answers here. If you still have questions, the best place to get an answer is from Patreon’s customer support team, here.
Cheers!

If there's any solace, the going tax rate for me on Patron pledges is 20%. so you guys are paying less than us! It seems the US is just catching up the the norm in Europe right now :(
