SKAM France Episode 2 - UNCUT

Alrighty, it's here! Our uncut reaction to SKAM France Season 3 Episode 2.

If there's one thing we know, the way to a man's heart is through the piano <3

Enjoy!

Alex - Fun fact. The meerkat is actually a sister species to the north American raccoon 🦝 🙂

Cathy Mills

I feel would enjoy that version of the little mermaid more then the original

Makayla Hall

I don't feel the connection between Lucas et Elliot like I did between Isaak og Even. Everything about Elliot is giving me psychokiller red flags. I would be curious to see what an Australian version of Skam would look like.

Ryan Walter

What a fun video. You both had me laughing throughout!

JustinThyme

Perfectly fine not to like this version, and yes Josh and Alex reactions certainly make it worth watching even if you might not be as into a certain show as others.

Sara Nissen

100%THIS

I think that the OG SKAM style of laser focusing on the season main character gave more emotional weight to the interactions Isak had with other characters. You guys noticed that Lucas is more sociable than Isak was but that's because the "girl squad" characters that were living life in the background during Isak's turn as a main are much more involved as a whole in this version (Eva and Chris had like 2 scenes where they had lines in S3 and Vilde, Noora and Sana were only important in how they dealt with Isak). There's less time for the POV and face shots that let the OG Isak and Even actors full sell their characters and the romantic tension between them even by this point in its season. I think the French remake gets better later on in the season once they get more development in but yeah the first few episodes are more of an exercise in prettying up the set key plot points of the SKAM narrative than building up the characters that fill in those key moments in the OG.

Stephen Young

Ok, I'm probably going to get hell for this, but it's a bit too film noire meets very soft p*rn. Whereas the OG Skam brushed over the sex (Tarjei was too young to be filming more intimate scenes), this version almost makes too much of it. It feels like it's all about the sex, rather than the relationship itself. Please don't hate me....

Jacqueline Hahn

ok i might not like the show but i still love the reactions, highly entertaining! :D i laughed so hard through the bit about "spirit animals" (even though the use of that phrase is so misguided, i know it's a very common thing but that doesn't make the appropriation from native american culture ok), anyway josh and alex working out which animals they identify with was hilarious, also the part about raccoons listening to dubstep :)) really everything about this video was either interesting and insightful or laugh-out-loud funny... 100% worth watching!

as far as the piano scene, in the corresponding og scene it's not about how deserving either of them is of appreciation to outside eyes, not at all, but the point is that isak and even were connecting deeply, clearly feeling so at ease with each other, it's so organic between them and both of them are transformed from how we've seen them be around other people, all of that stuff... and none of it is in this version. if anything this hang-out feels even more awkward between them - i truly don't understand how people see the lack of chemistry and call it chemistry - and the story itself doesn't seem as interested in that easy connection as in showing us a "moment" where some super-obvious "quality" of one of the characters is shoved down our throats...

xbujorx

i'm sure there must be something valuable in this version for people to love it so much, a majority of people even, and i guess i just don't relate, which is fine. but i also have a problem seeing how this is an exact copy of og skam, which i've heard voiced a lot, because it feels so far, actually... even storywise/emotional landscape-wise it seems like most of the big points about the characters and their actions from the og are missing or turned into something super-conventional (in this episode the piano thing is really annoying to me, like we're supposed to feel and understand that the reason the even character starts to fall in love with the isak character is a very contrived "wow he plays the piano so beautifully" moment - it's cheesy and manipulative and i hate when shows make me feel like that and og skam *never* did). and in terms of how it's filmed, there's other types of filmmaking than what julie andem employed for skam, those have their place and it can be an integral part of the storytelling in those other cases, but for skam norway i think one of the main points and one of its major strengths is that watching it you feel like you're seeing something that's as far away from a "spectacle" as possible. that's part of the storytelling, that it feels so real and you feel so close to these characters, and NOT manipulated, and nothing about it feels exploitative on either end. it's masterfully done in skam norway and it really is a major point. and then skam france basically does the total opposite.

I understand all your critisism about SKAM France in the comments, that OG SKAM felt more real and here they might do as many american series does by casting actors older than the teens, They are supposed to portray and the story being too close to OG SKAM, OG SKAM is still my favorite with Druck as number 2(Druck being a more sure number 2 now seeing Skam France through others eyes) but I still really like this version(my number 3), and I am(Still) looking forward to see their reactions to it.

Sara Nissen

I don’t see the chemistry or appeal either. I don’t mind a more “polished” filmmaking style, but it’s not like YR or HS. It’s a carbon copy. And not one I enjoy. OG Skam all day for me. And they seemed determined to make this “sexier,” but it’s a lot. I’m curious how first time Skam watchers will react.

snallahej

It does feel a little forced. I've never been a huge fan of Skam France, and I've always wondered why so many others are fans. The OG Skam felt revelatory, honest, and quite profound in the way it handled Isak's growth and whole character arc. Skam France skims all that in favor of something else I can't quite put my finger on.

Curtis Weeks

yes, THAT

xbujorx

I'd like S.4. of Skam Norway. I know it's Sana's story, but there's a lot of pretty important stuff about Isak and Even, especially Even, in there that explains a lot of his behaviour in S.3. And it is just lovely.

Jacqueline Hahn

i'll suffer through the reactions to this i guess but i just hope that it won't be the last skam-related thing they do because i really want to see reactions to druck s3, s6 and s7 in particular, and like others have said before i also think an og skam s4 reaction would be great too (as well as bloopers and other fun and *good* og stuff!).

xbujorx

Druck is great! As you said a show on its own.

Ingrid Machado Pena

i mean... surely there's better content than skam if that's what you're looking for. there's queer made content with real life queer people to consume for all your titillation needs but maybe that's just me 😁 skam as a set of stories and an approach to telling those stories (feminist and realistic and trying to equip young people with tools to deal with problems in their own lives) is just about something else. and og skam was also beautiful but not in that "look the production quality is so good and here's some artistic cinematography" way and at times it's erotic yeah but not just copying the "sexiness" from all the other shows that have ever existed, especially NOT in exotifying ways which this seems to be about and so feels really off (besides the fact that the chemistry isn't there). druck on the other hand manages to get all those main points right, all while making the stories fresh and different and actually improve them enough to be a satisfying show on its own, not just as a skam remake....

xbujorx

There's a lot more skin on show in this version. Maybe it's that? Personally I preferred the more subtle, and as far as I'm concerned, far more natural way the original dealt with the rumpy-pumpy side of things. That was both very sweet and very erotic. Nothing beats that look between I & E as they partied!

Jacqueline Hahn

Agree completely, Lottie. Glad it’s not just me. 😏

Graham & Ruth May

Not feeling the chemistry either, Jacqueline and xbujorx. I appreciate all the time and effort put into your reactions, guys and I have been watching your reactions on YouTube first then on this Patreon, for a long time. Each to their own, but I am not impressed by this show and I am only watching it for your reactions. Roll on more uncut Heartstopper and uncut Young Royals reactions. Love you both, but don’t love this.

Graham & Ruth May

I would love that too. 🙏🏻

Ingrid Machado Pena

Well, to me, Lucas and Elliot seem to have a bit more mysterious side than Isak and Even. I’m enjoying the journey. Thanks Josh and Alex

Diane Furlong

i dunno, this is supposed to be really great chemistry?! it seems forced and a bit cringe. and like the first time i attempted to watch it, but just couldn't, to me this remake is honestly just boring, overacted, i swear it's got none of the stuff that made og skam great and lots of stuff that makes most shows very meh... but ok everybody likes what they like so the many people that really love this version must see stuff i don't :D

xbujorx

I'm not at all sure about this version of Skam. Maybe it's just the French way, but it feels very hectic, there's an awful lot of stuff going on on the periphery and I'm just not feeling the vibe between Eliot and Lucas. It all feels a tad forced, somehow. But your dead right about the Robert Pattinson Thing. THIS is what Edward Cullen SHOULD have looked like!

Jacqueline Hahn

I love your reactions, but when are you posting heartstopper episode 4 😌? It’s been many weeks now since episode 3🙏🏻. Instead of posting new shows can we please finish heartstopper and Young Royals uncut reactions 🥹?

Marstrand

Yes the dubstep scene at Elliotts is kinda awkward, but I love the look on Elliotts face, when Lucas plays piano(by the way the piece is called "I Love You"), he just looks so captivated by him. I actually really like the racoon as Elliotts spirit animal, it seems really fitting in a way(he said, it's cool, cause it wears a mask, and maybe Elliott kinda wears a mask himself and sometimes racoons could look like little thieves, so like he is stealing Lucas heart etc), and to me it seemed like Elliott knew, when he touched Lucas hair, what animal to draw him as, and when you see it later, it's actually really cute.

Sara Nissen

Good Morning/afternoon everyone! Looking forward to seeing the uncut version of this episode. Thanks Alex and Josh
