We aren’t sure if it’s just original to the show and we’re actually remembering it from S1E9 when Chauncey is being restrained by the other British officers.

To make the Mer-Stede Kate Bush Sequence so romantic and camp and full of heart but also funny. How is this working? How? I'm obsessed!

2023-11-15 12:13:05 +0000 UTCdespite how campy the escape back to the revenge comes off, it's actually a massive moment for stede as a captain - he believed the crew had killed ed, but he listened to izzy and decided they shouldn't suffer for his actions, even including izzy in the rescue, too

2023-11-15 02:59:15 +0000 UTCcouple things: izzy lied to stede about killing ed initially as a kindness, thinking no one would find his body; hornigold was briefly mentioned in s1 as the captain that ed and calico jack sailed under; ghost-hornigold basically said that ed had conjured him/the "thinking cliff" so that someone else could send him to his death and he wouldn't have to (which is what he did with the crew too), meaning that the jumping was intended to be his death and he only started to struggle when his body sensed stede

2023-11-14 22:04:26 +0000 UTCFun fact: Rhys Darby (Stede) actually swam that scene in a real mermaid tail, there was very little CGI used. Both Taika and Rhys are strong swimmers and so were able to keep their eyes open and act the entire scene beautifully underwater with little assistance. Rhys as a merman and the Kate Bush song was priority number one for the director this season!
