2024-05-28 09:39:55 +0000 UTCas a gay trans guy I always have to be a bit on edge in conversations with cis gays cause either they fetishise or bring out comments in casual conversations that equate gay to only liking cis penis and/or being gay to being disgusted by any genitals that's not a cis penis. depending on how safe or angry I'm feeling I then turn that conversation usually into a mandatory sex ed classes cause most cis gays have no idea about trans men's bodies that's not from fetishist porn.

2024-05-28 09:37:06 +0000 UTCI will not forget Billy Porter saying that his trans co-stars need to "wait their turn" when he was asked about people rightfully complaining that he was nominated for POSE at the Emmys as a cis man while not a single one of the trans women was. He is not an ally, just aligns himself with the community when it suits him.

I wasn't physically abused or anything like that, but when my family found out I was seeing my girlfriend at the time (who I have talked about before while commenting on Fellow Travelers), even though I was an adult, my aunt forbade us to see each other and forced me to cut off communication with her, which caused me to sneak around with her again and they found out again and it got to the point where I didn't want to keep hiding and I said you know what, you can either accept it or don't but I'm not going to hide it anymore. I'm very lucky that my aunt came around and is very supportive now, though she's not perfect by any means. I often think how it could've been a lot worse for me, had it gone another direction, especially with my disability on top of it. My aunt has apologized many times since then, for any part she might've played in my girlfriend and I not making it even though it wasn't her fault entirely, it was me mostly. Watching this took me right back there and my tummy hurt.

I think most people genuinely just arenβt aware that it happens frequently which is completely understandable but also why shows and conversations like this are so important! Especially since trans people are likely to experience sexual violence which very often goes hand in hand with fetishisation

I do see a lot of guys on dating apps specifying that they are looking for a trans person, and many (though not all) of their descriptions of themselves and what they're 'looking for' come across as fetishistic and perverse. As with many other issues related to trans rights, there is certainly more work that needs to be done.

It happens more to trans women but absolutely also happens to trans men too. In my experience, around 95% of the guys who will message me on dating apps or hookup apps are only interested in me because of the fact that I'm trans. I get a lot of 'straight men' who are interested in me but also a lot of queer men who want to hookup just because they want to hookup with a trans person. I think arguably the worst people though are those that are interested in trans people because they want to try to get us to detransition for them. Long comment but just thought I'd share my experience as a trans person! Especially as a queer trans man.
