I was hoping this was the episode when we find out about Rowan! I totally wasn't expecting him, so good on the writers for leaving me gagged and gooped. You can't help but feel sorry for Spider. Yeah, he can be a total douche, but now we know why. It just gets more insane from here on out. Hold on to your knickers!

The lovely actor who plays Maliki has one an award in Australia for a one man show he wrote and performed about his experience as a First Nations man. He is very talented. I love how you get confused about some of the First Nations stuff and how people talk to each other within their mob. It is very distinctive and unique.

I also think if you grow up hearing your shit mostly for being a straight male, you might just say well if Im terrible no matter what, why not play into everyone’s expectations. That scene with his mom was difficult to watch. Empathizing with a straight male was definitely not on my bingo card this season 😂

Oh gosh! I totally called Rowan. Once he suddenly had feelings for Amerie so quickly almost as though she had been his goal since coming to the school. My gut flag me that it was him. Ive watched it all now and am so excited for your reactions. When Josh says “Rowan for school president” earlier in the episode, I cringed. 😂 This show is odd and dramatic, but I also love how diverse its is while also having a major drama/mystery slowly weaving throughout the background. Its brilliant and different than most shows

I feel so bad so Spencer after they revealed him mom. To live with the person, who's your closest relative, who knows you best and is supposed to love you for who you are, and to hear them talk about you like there's something so inherently wrong about you and you'd definitely descent into the lowest scum on earth basically. And everything else she said about wiping out the men, damn. That just messes you up. So now he's afraid of women, afraid to get close, afraid of his own self, and what he might do even if he isn't consciously thinking it. God, his mom is a tool.

In hindsight I guess the reveal is kind of obvious. Can't have this "perfect, breath of fresh air" character come in without something being wrong. I know nobody is prefect, but these days it would be refreshing to see that everyone is not necessary completely fucked up.

Ugh now I feel bad for Spider. Kids will so often become what they’re told they are, or at least act out in the way people talk about them. It’s not even so much about the subject matter of that lunch conversation, though that was horrible too, any parent who talks about their kids in that manner is pretty despicable, clearly doesn’t respect their child, and is going to give their kid a complex. These kids are all literally a product of their upbringing

Yes to the bisexual icon scene! I love this show so much for showing both bisexuality and asexuality so explicitly and “normally”, since they’re both often quite invisible. Poor Spencer. I see convos similar to what the mum said scarily often in feminist circles, specifically radical feminism. The concept that men are intrinsically dangerous/immoral/bad/predatory/untrustworthy/aggressive etc, and women are inherently good/pure/loving/can never do harm or do wrong is awful. Misandry needs to be talked about more. There’s nothing wrong with being a man or having “male biology/DNA/hormones” —> which usually descends into transphobia in those discussions too. Like you guys said, it’s the extremeness of it all. Missy handled that perfectly.
